Off Season Salary Cap

Does anyone else have issues with keeping your team under the cap? All season it said I was fine can could resign my players, but once I get to the offseason it says I'm 18 million over the cap. It totally ruins my offseason. Is this an issue with the offseason when doing many years or just poor cap management by myself?

If you have alot of high drsft picks that could be the problem because it'll put aside part of your cap for the rookies.

Are you trading or cutting guys with big cap penalties? If you have a play due a ton of bonus money and you cut them there's a penalty that goes against your upcoming years cap rather than being split evenly throughout the rest of that contract.

Cutting or trading some players will actually make your cap space go down, not up.

Even worse, if you traded a player with a huge cap penalty for a early first round pick you'll then owe millions more in rookie reserve so you end up taking two cap hits. I've seen a lot of people get burned by that in different CFMs.

It sets aside money for draft picks. I had 2 picks in each of the first 3 rounds last year, so it said I was over by like $6m.

I wound up trading a few away and had 10m in room by the start of season.

It also takes into account your practice squad guys are now on the "roster," so the salary for the 10 of them goes into the pot.

Rookie cap is only for the player's rookie year though. The difference in this Madden vs last year's CFM is signing a free agent in preseason or regular season is way more expensive so you have to set aside more money for your space fillers.
