Go Charge Go!
Spanos finally let go of Chargers

The moment all Chargers fans have been waiting for has finally happened.
The universally loved Spanos family has agreed to sell the team at the end of the 2016 season to a finanicial mogul from Sacramento, California by the name of Robert Starr. The Spanos family decided to sell after the criticism of their handling of rookie Joey Bosa's contract, and Phillip Rivers announcing his retirement at the end of the season and the overall dissatisfaction of the handling of their team. After threatening to take the team away from the city, they finally caved.

Robert Starr has promised some big changes at the start of the 2017 season. His number 1 priority is keeping the Chargers in San Diego, and has promised by the 2018 season the Chargers will have a new stadium. He has immediately put to the rest the talk about moving the Chargers to Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Starr had only one thing to say to the press regarding the new ownership,
"My number one focus is the fans, whether it be winning, watching the games in a new stadium or overall happiness. This city and this team is special, and it's my job to show you."

Re: Go Charge Go! A Madden 16 Connected Franchise

The End of an Era: Phillip Rivers Retires

The Chargers end their 2016 season at 6-9-1, Phillip Rivers gave his all his last season but after the massive amount of injuries, the Chargers missed the playoffs once again. This season is familiar to a lot of Chargers fans, Rivers put the team on his back time and time again, only to be let down by his team and his coach. Phillip is the best quarterback in Chargers history, and without out him the future of this Chargers team is unclear. Sitting in the middle of the pack draft wise, the Chargers are in a bind, as they won't get top pick at quarterback, but with so many holes to fill, anyone they pick will help.

With his departure, the Chargers have also fired Mike McCoy, who will be replaced with a coach who is to be determined. McCoy finished his career with the Chargers at 30-39-1, having only made the playoffs once in his first year with the Chargers. The Chargers are looking to move to a 4-3 defense, and will be looking for a coach who is experienced in team building also.

Re: Go Charge Go! A Madden 16 Connected Franchise

Chargers Offseason:

Chargers hire Coach Nick Staton

The Chargers have hired Dallas Offensive Coordinator Nick Stanton, the man responsible for the Cowboys success on offense this past year with Rookies Ezekiel Elliot and Dak Prescott. Stanton led the Cowboys to a top 5 offense in the NFL, along with the number 1 rushing offense in the NFL. He also showed versatility adapting his game plan from Tony Romo to Dak Prescott with major success.

He runs a West Coast offense, along with an attacking 4-3 defense. Stanton knows he is going into this city with the hopes of rebuilding the team. With Phillip Rivers gone he'll have a big task at hand.

Resigned Players:

Melvin Ingram EDGE: 4 years, 30.4 Million

Melvin has turned into a double digit sack guy, and paired with rookie pass
rusing sensation Joey Bosa the Chargers defensive line is starting to shape up.

Manti Te'o LOLB: 3 years, 9.15 Million

With the Chargers shifting to a 4-3, Teo looks to be a great coverage linebacker
to pair with up and coming middle linebacker Denzel Perryman.

Free Agent Signings:

Micah Hyde SS: 3 years, 10 million.

The Chargers have a big hole at SS, and Micah Hyde is a cheap signing that
will provide adequate talent. Hyde is good against the run, and decent enough in coverage to get by.

Chris Thompson HB: 1 year, 3.1 Million

With both Woodhead and Branden Oliver coming off major injuries, the Chargers decided it was time to move on. They felt that former Redskins speedster Thompson was underused, and could be a great change of pace back.

Willie Beavers LG: 3 years 6.7 Million

Beavers was cut this year in preaseason due to lack of effort, the talent is there but he'll need to beat out Orlando Franklin to show it. Back up guard at the moment.

Re: Go Charge Go! A Madden 16 Connected Franchise

2017 NFL Draft

Lightning in a Bottle

Jimmy Coady QB | 6'3" 233 lbs | Texas A&M

Have the Chargers found their successor to Phillip Rivers already? The Chargers used their first round pick on Jimmy Coady out of Texas A&M after the All-Star game MVP fell right into their laps. Coady was in the running for the Heisman, but lost to UNLV linebacker Chris Hope.

Going into the draft the Chargers could have selected anyone at this spot, but Coady was pegged as a player with a top 5 quarterback in the league potential. He was described in college as an Aaron Rodgers- lite. Can Coady be the future of this franchise?

Kadeem Carrie WR | 6'2" 212 lbs| Nebraska

Carrie suffered from the Jarvis Landry syndrome. Star possession receiver in college, and when it came for the combine he didn't test as well as he looked. He ran in the high 4.5's and for most receivers that's the death sentence.

The Chargers believe otherwise, they think that tape is more important than the combine. If Keenan Allen can stay healthy,

Carrie can play the number 2 receiver, moving Benjamin to the slot. Leaving Coady with a solid receiving corps.

Chris Wesley CB | 6'0" 182 lbs | Colorado

The Chargers might have picked up the best cornerback in the draft at pick number 73. Chris Wesley excelled in college at Colorado, covering some of the best receivers in the Pac 12 and shutting them down.

Wesley will slip right into the CB2 spot, and there has been rumblings of the Chargers cutting Brandon Flowers who had a rough 2016. With Jason Verrett, Casey Heyward and now Chris Wesley the Chargers are finally on their way to a solid secondary. If the safety play holds up, then this secondary could be really good.

Frank Cooley SS | 6'0" 198 lbs | Georgia Tech

With the signing of Micah Hyde at SS the Chargers drafted Cooley the SS/FS out of Georgia Tech. Cooley has all the physical traits to be a top safety, he is adequate in coverage but needs to sit a year behind Hyde in order to learn the playbook.

Jamaal Perrilloux HB | 5'10 204 lbs | Tulane

The Chargers continue the run on athletes by drafting the fastest player in the draft with Perrilloux. If you are wondering, yes he is the younger brother of Ryan. Jamaal will be competing for he game breaker/ change of pace back with Chris Thompson. His knock coming out of college was his ball carrying.

The Chargers are confient that the 4.32 speedster will find a onto the field sooner rather than later. He will also see some time at wide receiver, mostly operating out of the slot.

Malcolm Schulz C/G | 6'3 293 lbs | North Carolina

Malcolm Schulz the multi-tool. Schulz played all over the line at North Carolina. He projects as a center/guard at the next level. With the lack of talent on the Chargers line they'll welcome him with open arms. He'll be competing for the right guard spot to start the season.

Derrick Booker LB | 6'3" 237 lbs | Boston College

The Chargers are transitioning to a a 4-3, which means they'll need to stock up on linebackers. At the moment all they have are the former middle linebackers. Booker has the size and the speed to be a force at the position, but is lacking in the mental aspect of the game. He won't see the field this year if he doesn't get up to speed.

The Chargers are a young team, and it shows on paper. Today their young defense showed up, shutting down the Dolphins and allowing only one offensive touchdown, while holding the Dolphins to 3 redzone field goals. The defense harassed Ryan Tannehill all game, forcing him to throw two interceptions.
One was returned for the first pick 6 of the season when Jason Verrett broke up a pass intended for Devante Parker, which new safety Micah Hyde caught and strolled into the endzone.

The defense has also got some help by second year man Joey Bosa kicking into the inside during passing plays. On passing downs the defensive line is
Ingram-Bosa-Luiget-Attaochu, this package netted them two sacks and a forced fumble in todays game.

Rookie Quarterback Jimmy Coady has a great game, throwing for two touchdowns on 181 yards. His first NFL touchdown was thrown to fellow rookie Kadeem Carrie on his first catch of the game. Coady was not asked to do much but manage this game as his defense was making it easy. His second touchdown came after Denzel Perryman's first career interception which he brought to the 20 yards line, allowing Coady to throw for his second touchdown to Hunter Henry.

The other big story of the game was how terrible special team was. In the first quarter Josh Lambo missed one field goal from the 44, and had another one blocked. In the second half Drew Kaser had a punt blocked and returned for a touchdown. If it's more of the same next week the Chargers might have to make serious changes.
