Let's put it to a vote: Do we need two game settings? (Sim vs online)

It's commonly been reference to but I don't recall seeing an actual OS poll on the matter.

Do we need to have two game settings in Madden: SIM and ONLINE
*They could obviously be called whatever EA wanted to label them as*

To put the difference into simple terms I will define SIM as a mode where things outside of the user's control will happen (bad throws/fumbles/drops/missed blocks/bad routes/FG's much harder) and ONLINE as a mode where none of those examples happen outside of the user's control.

There seems to be two very different schools of thought out there and I'm asking OS if it's time to start heavily pushing for a separation of two game mode settings so each type could have their own rendition of the game they want.

Clint has stated they want to go into that direction going into the future. I'm not sure how hard OS needs to push on that.

Let's give them another piece of information to bring to the discussions.

Re: Let's put it to a vote: Do we need two game settings? (Sim vs online)

I voted yes, and I think it's important to give the developers credit for where they're trying to go. Out of the box, defense was tighter than post-patch and I saw more variety in QB play. Post-patch, things changed, and I think the developers want to make a serious game with a real strategic element, but they're constrained by tournament culture.

I'd love next year's out of the box game play to go further in the direction that this year's game took and for there to simply be an arcade/tournament toggle that modifies the ratings in such a way that 99 OVR QB to 99 OVR TE = completion 99% of the time.

Whatever those kids want, they can have, but I'd like the game itself to be tuned for sim and then for the sim crowd and have the arcade toggle just nerf the sim element to whatever degree the tourney crowd wishes.

I'm really happy to hear that this is something Clint believes in, so I'm optimistic we'll get a version of this next year.

Of course we do. Anytime EA tries to bring dynamic gameplay to the table, the online crowd whines because something happened that was beyond their control or something was too difficult for them and EA nerfs it back to some bland vanilla gameplay that feels the seem year after year.

It honestly feels like a bait and switch to players who like the game at launch only to have it ruined by patches.

We have the option of "even" teams. How about sim or intangibles option. Where there are more missed throws, fumbles, drops due to player ratings. While still separating online-offline.

Whilst I agree and voted as such, I think this poll will be skewed by the fact that most OS users are in favour of Sim Football and separating it out from Madden-bowl style playing.

Re: Let's put it to a vote: Do we need two game settings? (Sim vs online)

I think online play and offline play should be balanced separately. I think it would be a great change for both crowds. As a sim offline player I hate when things get changed because it was an issue in online play but it worked fine in offline. And I'm sure the reverse has happened to the online players. Separate balancing seems like the most practical solution to a very annoying problem that's been going on for a long time. I really hope they get it in next year's game! Might be the only way to please both crowds.
