Well dudes, regular season is here already! Talk about a quick break.

I was gonna go with Florida v. Dallas as my Stanley Cup pick, but I don't know how Florida is going to fare with Huberdeau out. Guess he'll be back before the end of the season though so I guess it might still work.

I will say, losing Nichushkin for Dallas seems like addition by subtraction. Really bad locker room guy, who didn't produce enough to make up for it.

I bought the NHL.tv sub for the first time this year, super-excited to watch way too much hockey this season. I've always followed the Islanders from a distance so it will be cool to catch some local TV feeds. I'm also interested in following the Leafs progress, I'm pretty sure they won't be very good this year but they do seem committed to rebuilding the franchise.

I hate to say it, but I believe this is the year the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin without the Detroit Red Wings as a participant. With our head coach and general manager making mind-boggling stupid moves and statements, this team is modeling itself after the US WCoH team that failed miserably, paying huge amounts to players for their "grit," and "sandpaper," whatever the heck that is.

Meanwhile, young, speedy talent is put on waivers and/or sent to Grand Rapids to over-ripen.

I shouldn't complain, it's been a hell of a run. And I'll still enjoy watching. It's just time to move on from the current regime.

If not for being in middle of MLB Playoffs, I'd actually be more excited for start of regular season.

Luckily for NHL though, there's no games tonight in the MLB so more attention will be put on NHL.
