Whats the signifigance of a 100 SCALE RATING system in Madden 17??

Not really sure the significance of the 0-100 Scale for player ratings and attributes in Madden 17. Reason being that most of the players seem to fall between the 70-99 range.

Maybe because of this, you dont see as much distinction, variety and separation between player styles & performances??...just a guess. (Unless the lack of variety is more related to deficiencies game play and animation system?)

However, back to my point, Im almost at the point that I would prefer to see them use a rating system similar to what Acclaim did with ALL Star Baseball. They used the letter grade system to rate all the player's attributes from A to F with pluses and minuses as well to cover a wider gamut. (A-,B, C+, etc)

I just find it so amusing that Madden uses the 100 point rating scale but you never see a player ranked in a significant rating attribute with 10 or 25, or even less than a 60. The only time you will see these really low numbers is when a Punter is rating in categories that shouldnt even be wasting valuable screen space like Throwing accuracy or impact blocking, ect.

I dunno...I just think the whole rating system is one big smoke and mirror monkey show and the joke is on us for buying into it.

I think the ratings should either be much more varied across the full number spectrum, or they should come up with another system for ratings...at for what is veiwable to the user

Yeah if they spread ratings more elite guys would stand out. Problem is the casual crowd cares about ratings a lot and would just bitch about it and complain about guys being unusable if backups were in the 60-65 range.

The way I see it 75 is average and the disbursement is a bell curve off of that. Therefore, anything under 50 should be as common as ratings over 100. What some people want is for average to be 50 and the bell distribution off of that which would allow for a 50 point distribution rather than a 25 point one. This would cause a wider disparity In player ratings. If it would make the game better I dont know.

I really started to see a difference in gameplay when I started playing MUT and had players on my team with 97+ ratings in several categories. The elite guys really stood out on both sides of the ball.

The way I see is that a hypothetical 15 or 20 would be your local high school quarterback; a 35 would be some random sophomore at North Dakota State; a 40 is your typical D1 third-stringer; and the 50-60 range are guys who were ok or even good in college but can't make an NFL team.

People get too caught up in the numbers. Who cares if 60 ovr is the lower end? As long as on the field there is a seperation of skill I don't care.

Re: Whats the signifigance of a 100 SCALE RATING system in Madden 17??

Theres more that defines a player than just those numbers.

It really surprises me that 'sim gamers' even worry about that kinda stuff. In mmorpg's for example youll get guys who crunch all the numbers and min max stuff so they have the most uber character of nerdom. You'll get your casuals who are most of the players and they just wanna goof off with their friends. And you get rp'ers who behave like they are that character and dont use outside knowledge about the game to make them stronger etc.

Logic would dictate as a 'sim' player youd wanna be more like the last group. Since in RL we dont have things like OVR ratings. If you want to simulate the NFL Id pay as little attention to it as possible really.

But it doesnt work that way in practice within the game community.

Re: Whats the signifigance of a 100 SCALE RATING system in Madden 17??

I remember a fella last year who edited all the rosters for M16 and made a wider spread in the bell curve by having the lower tier players....well really low in ratings and it seemed to make a tremendous difference in the game play and diversity between players and performances in key ratings..

So I do think there is some merit in the actual numbers and ratings....I just really wonder why EA bunches them so close together which seems to stifle the very variety and dynamic gameplay that every seeks to achieve???
