How to time layups in 2k17?

I'm trying to figure out this new layup timing thing in 2K17, but not getting consistent results...what's the system for layups and post shots (hooks, etc)?

Do you release when your player leaves the ground, when you want your player to release the ball, or something else? The meter usually goes so fast i can't really tell.

Re: How to time layups in 2k17?

I haven't gotten the hang of it either. I mean a layup has several different release points. I instinctively released when it "felt right", or switched shot if that "feel right" point was never reached. But now I can't focus on defenders hands cause I have to look at the shot meter. hopefully in time I can consistently get good layup releases.
