What is the consensus on man coverage in 17

After last year I feel like they did a good job rebalancing man coverage to make it a viable option in defense again. With 16 man coverage was almost a death sentence to giving up a big play in the passing game. How is everyone else feeling about man coverage this year?

Covering tight ends and inside routes is an issue for me. Even extremely high rated man coverage guys seem to have issues, and linebackers are particularly bad at covering tight ends, even the highly rated coverage guys.

It's better than last year but I'd like to see the elite guys really shut down WRs and TEs, and I haven't seen that yet. I wonder if others are having the same experience.

I haven't noticed any issues, but I've also spent a majority of my time in UT where I'm only playing defense for the most part on rookie/pro. Where the man coverage seems to be back on the level of NCAA 14 and pre madden 16. I've always been a fan of 2 man under and have been able to use it again as my base defensive play. I've also been liking 2 buck(Cover 2 deep and zone on half the field, man on the other half) so playing with the Jets having Revis be able to man up while the other side of the field is in zone is a great addition to the play book.

Using inside/outside coverage shading can help you alot, especially if you like to play as a safety. Have the CB's cover inside/outside and then you take away the opposite shoulder.

Had a buddy trying to utilize Gronk out of the slot last night. Shaded inside to have the CB take away inside routes, I used my safety to cover his outside. He never got another completion to him after that.

See my problem with shading is it flat out doesn't do anything for me. I'll shade my slot CB inside and at the snap he STILL plays outside technique while his guy is wide open on a slant. It's infuriating when you know somethings coming and try to put guys in the right position to stop it but they don't respond the way they should

Now I wonder if his stats had anything to do with that? Test that theory with Honey Badger in the slot since he has 90+ MCV and see if it still doesn't work

Re: What is the consensus on man coverage in 17

I prefer a cover 2 man base defense as well. Very tough to run with any consistency due to the aforementioned coverage problems vs TE and sometimes RB. The CPU controlled LBs and S just can't cover anyone in man, unless it's straight down the field. If there is any cut in the route, they will lose 4-5 steps after the cut, regardless of stated man cover ability and agility. Looks ridiculous.

The shading, as far as I can tell, simply does not work. I don't think it ever has. Add it to the list of perpetually broken "features".
