Fed up with FIFA devs

I like to think of myself as a very dedicated single player user of this game, and used to be for Madden and NCAA football. FIFA has frankly abused us as customers for a long time now, and I won't further indulge it. Let me explain.

The single player experience in FIFA, specifically career manager mode, is past due date. It's long since expired and is stale beyond belief. Ignoring the myriad of problems such as transfer scouting, recruiting, buying and selling players, loaning, etc etc... these key issues continue and make me unwilling to spend more money on fifa:

Teams play alike This is the biggest, most serious sin of the game series to date. Who cares about the rest? When you're on the pitch playing Barca or Bayer or America, all the teams play the same. Tika taka passing and the EXACT same playstyle. Full stop, the rest of my rant can end here. If you're in year 4 of your manager mode, this becomes tedious and boring beyond belief. There's no teams that play long ball, or play a counter, or play a hard attack with risky passing. Nope. It's all careful and perfect passing until they blow a cross (dont even get me started on AI crossing) or until they miss a pass by 5 yards. Or if they shoot and you save it. That's it. That's the extent of the AI. And I would be willing to wager my home on that staying the same this year.

Transfer logic is broken and bad Even on the computer, with a mod to increase transfers, simming ahead 5 years will show that all teams are basically 90% the same. Boring. Stupid. Lazy. Pick your word, EA is guilty of it. No thanks.

Superficial Like the gals and guys on the Jersey shore, this series manager mode is vapid and uninteresting. Stat tracking is a joke. There's no depth, no trophy room, no reason to do anything. You cant turn off firing and the board is insane. There's no career stats or stats for leagues outside of yours. At all. You cant easily see whats going on in your league or outside your league... basically it's like the rest of the world ceases to exist. Its you and your team and who you play next. Boring. lazy. Again, pick your word ... Ea is guilty.

Now look at Madden. Do I prefer video game American football to Soccer? No. I think that video soccer is better, but good lord, is Madden ever impressive in these areas. The franchise mode is deep, always worked on, and being focused on of all things this year.

What? Yes, you read that right. They're literally focusing on franchise mode. It was already much better in all sorts of ways to FIFA's, and yet they're still working on refreshing it. Having played the trial I'm shocked at how engaging the mode is, how much they tweak and improve the game year to year, and listen to the community. Night and day to what we get.

FIFA sells 150 million to Maddens 120 million copies. Money isn't an issue. I for one won't be a part of that 150 million this year, or, next, until they begin respecting their customers again and put some work into the mode that so many of us love.

Shame on you EA.

Re: Fed up with FIFA devs

I would actually disagree that Madden's career mode is much better and specifically, deeper. It really isn't. Now I'm referring to last year's game - Madden '16. I couldn't even finish a full season with how dull it was. I can't imagine it being considerably better this year. Slightly improved, probably.

Unfortunately single-player modes don't generate the revenue that these games now seemingly rely on. Until they find a way to monetize the single-player career modes in their games, EA will continue to de-prioritize these modes in terms of developmental focus.

NBA 2K is the lone exception to this, but I do believe that's because (1) it was 2K's bread and butter before anything else, and (2) 2K has found a way to monetize the game with VC, even though many would argue it is to that game's detriment. I think the money issue has gone overboard lately, but if it meant that single-player career modes got more attention, then I guess that's the trade-off we have to live with.

I don`t know how you can make this kind of post and not be joking. I don`t want to go down a laundry list of what Madden has FIFA doesn`t but, just specifically lets address a few things:
1) Youth recruiting in FIFA is basically non existent and automated. in Madden its deeper, its interesting, and rewarding.
2) Signings make sense in Madden and other teams change players and tune their teams according to need MUCh better than FIFA
3) Contract negotiations are much more interesting and fluid than FIFA
4) Want to know how PSG is doing when you`re in the German league? Pretend. Want to know how the Patriots were doing for rushing yards 2 years ago in your 5th CFM? Sure. Go check.
5) Madden has little things like Atalanta (and last year Minnesota) move into their new stadiums year 2.

I mean, this claim is so ridiculous. It really is... it honestly makes me question how much you actually played Madden last year. The franchise mode is so deep it actually can be a turn off if your casual and have to put a lot of stuff on auto pilot.

This premise is faulty because Madden The Show, and NBA (that`s literally 3 of the major sports in America) all have MUCh better, deeper, and better supported franchise modes. This whole paragraph is basically wrong. 100% wrong.

Re: Fed up with FIFA devs

JWil is right, CFM in Madden is nothing special.

2K has the best Franchise (Association) mode by far, FIFA is alright, not the best but I can see why there would be frustration.

I'm excited for the new game and all the new stuff regardless of what anyone says.

When i see teams transfering 0 to 1 players every 2 years it frustrates me more than anything. Why add a new budget system if teams dont even utilize it.

Madden's CFM isn't drastically better than FIFA's career mode. It has a handful of features like stat tracking that fifa should absolutely have. I've seen equally stupid signings in both games.

Thank you for giving us a 'this game sucks I'm not buying it this year' thread complete with the abused customers bit and telling someone else how much they're wrong and how you're right, even though they gave a thoughtful response to a post that probably didn't warrant it.

And then the day the game releases complain about how you hate the game and it was a waste of $60.
