EA gets exclusive rights of La Liga

Quote:
FIFA 17 will be "the only La Liga official videogame", as both publisher Electronic Arts and La Liga ambassador Fernando Morientes announced at Santiago Bernabéu during the game's official presentation.

The deal means that (just as is already happening with the English Premier League) EA gets the exclusive licensing rights on the teams, players and stadiums from Spain.

Inevitably, this announcement will have eyes turning to Pro Evolution Soccer 2017, because for the upcoming season Konami will now have to negotiate rights individually with each club. With that in mind it's currently unknown how many Spanish clubs with 'real' players that PES 2017 will include at launch.

Despite the new deal EA won't comment on how many Spanish stadiums fans can expect to see in FIFA 17. Both FIFA 15 and 16 ended up with just four arenas (Nou Camp, Bernabéu, Mestalla and Vicente Calderón), but with the new deal footie-lovers can now hope to see Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán (Sevilla) or the brand new San Mamés (Bilbao) included in the game.

PES will probably have all the La Liga players, but fake team names (Madrid Red and Blue, etc), and even more fake genetic kits. Hard to believe they won't have Real Madrid and Barca licensed tho. And they didn't have any La Liga stadiums last year, so that won't change.

I'm with you, but that's the nature of the beast. There isn't a game mode or feature you could ever add that would be as effective as this in terms of crushing the opposition. Unfortunately it leaves all of us (the players) in a worse position. Personally I buy FIFA regardless, so I'm not hurt too much. I'll forgive them if they just IMPROVE CAREER MODE.

This would bother me more if I were a PES fan, but I'm excited about them potentially adding the La Liga presentation and stadiums like FIFA has done with the Premier League.

They've had the rights to the La Liga Stadiums since 2014. Hopefully the new San Mames (Athletic Bilbao)is added.

Without wanting to step on anyone's toes, not many beautiful stadiums in La Liga (except San Mames and Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán) and the same applies to Serie A. But the more they add, the better. They should get the license to the Estádio da Luz and Estadio Municipal de Braga, etc.

Re: EA gets exclusive rights of La Liga

I hate exclusive licensing as well, but mainly because with two games it creates a war where each product gets fewer authentic leagues and teams than they otherwise could have.

I wish it was like others sports games where all of the teams and leagues are the same, but you choose the games on their own merit rather than the package of licenses.
