i usually wait till the end of the season to rent the current year's game just so bugs and roster adjustments are finalized based on the players real life performances (since its proove that prior year game's final updates and next year game's initial attributes can be widely different with no valid reason)

so its just a bonus for me anyways....

but ive yet to see any other sports franchise offer a free game since XBL and PSN started giving free games, is it because of pressure from the NBA Live series taking fans away from the 2016 sales and wanting to get them to pre-order the new one, or what?

I don't think so. Personally, I think it's the fact that Xbox has EA Access and the value is simply awesome and is growing by the month. PS4 declined. But ever so often they have an awesome deal themselves just to kinda say we're here too.

No, it's definitely not pressure from NBA Live. Their sales were a fraction of 2K's, and Live isn't even releasing a game next year. 2K probably figures that most everyone who is going to buy the game has bought it by now. So it's a chance to give people who might not have played the game otherwise to give it a try. Factor in that the NBA Finals are in progress at the moment, and 2K is about ready to start teasing 2K17, and you have the perfect opportunity to possibly pick up a few new customers without hurting your bottom line on 2K16.

It's a pretty smart business move for 2K, but the pool of randoms in All Star Team Up is pretty brutal right now lol.

It's free now because the Finals are going on and all the new people they're bringing in can still contribute microtransactions to 2K16 and possibly get interested enough to go ahead and preorder 2K17.
