Gaining experience for your profile in Franchise?

How is the profile experience determined in franchise. Some games at the end I get 2-3k and others with similar stats in the game I get 100-150? It doesn't make sense to me. Just curious as this is the first year I have really delved into franchise deeply. Also I know this is a dumb question, but when pitching do you place the ball on the spot you want it to go? Or do you place the arrows signifying the break on the ball at the spot you to pitch to? I know I should know better but never really understood it.
