What's up with Zone hitting?

Can someone please explain to me what the point of zone hitting is. I use the PCI wedge or whatever and I try and put the yellow dot on the ball and I find myself doing so pretty sucesfully only to have to it ground out and pop up. I mean a ball RIGHT down the middle and with green timing and it just does a weak ground out... This happens quite frequently. How do you get solid contact using zone hitting? Whats the best approach? THanks!

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.
