Not everyone is hardcore, and doesn't need it. I don't use the assists, but there are thousands of younger madden players, maybe even new to the game that get use out of them.

Also - all the assists in the game are optional; if you don't need them, turn them off, and I believe they default to off on the higher difficulty settings anyway.
