Scoring in the paint frequency?

It could be my but it seems it has been far easier after latest patch.

Especially against opponents that play on all-star level (seed 4), their only way to go is have 3 shooters and two tall guys. Then pass the ball to tall guys and post-up and dunk or pump-fake for an easy 2 FT. If you go for a double team you get a 3. I just played a guy who had 18-20 FG before he started rushing when I swtiched to zone. How is it possible to have 18/20 FG all in the paint after posting plus free throws from the fouls?

Earlier in the year you could strip the ball in the paint when crowded. This does not seem the case anymore.

Do you have similar experience?

Re: Scoring in the paint frequency?

I agree.

I know the pump faking into free throws has gotten really annoying. I've played guys that really abuse it. The CPU goes for far too many pump fakes, and 2k rewards them by giving them FTs and sometimes even and 1s. Seems like it's gotten worse. Also the CPU going for ridiculous steals that just lead to an open lay up. One of the first rules of defense is to stay in between your man and the goal. I'll put conservative defense on and it doesn't matter. Still going for pump fakes and insane steal attempts.

Re: Scoring in the paint frequency?

Patch 6 hasn't hit PC yet, so I can't comment on that iteration. Previously, the best way to avoid getting called on pumpfakes was to turn defensive assistance down (I use 15-20) and to let go of L2. L2 activates defensive assistance even if you have it set to 0. Use the RS to contest instead; when they jump, the vertical contest (Y + LS up) is the best option. They'll still draw a few fouls this way when a help defender acts stupid, but it eliminates 90% of them. On the 2nd or 3rd pumpfake you can also often successfully strip the offensive player if you have a good defender.

Re: Scoring in the paint frequency?

Could have to do with patch 6.

Game has changed a lot, and probably most of my opponents have realized it. It can't just happened that ALL my opponents post up. Hell

I had one guy the day before he was turboing and posting up in the paint with CP and then he would pass the ball between 3 defenders straight to his center

That being said I always played with defensive assistance in 100.

I don't even know what does it do. The guy who learned me the basics of 2k15 (when i first bought) told me to do so and I keep doing it. What does it do?

At 100%, the CPU does a lot of the work for you, so playing on-ball with 100 is not that different from playing off-ball. The CPU helps you stay with your guy, but will also fall for fakes and moves a lot more. The better you are at on-balling, the lower defensive assistance I would recommend.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that.

Thanks for the defensive assist strength tip. I lowered it to 50, and I see great improvement, of course no fully fixed but great improvement

Dropping Defensive Assist and switching Shot Contest to Manual for on-ball D is definitely the way to go. I usually go with 5 or 10.

It's not just cutting down on automated aggressive contests and reaches and such.

It seems to me that the main point of Defensive Assist is to help the defender stick with his assignment, in man-to-man on-ball defense. So it creates a "gravity" to the ballhandler and "sucks" the defender toward him.

If you're really atrocious at moving with the ballhandler, then it can be useful. But, otherwise, it basically reduces fine control of your defender. You definitely get sucked into really close Smother defense when trying to maintain, say, 3 feet of distance. And it'll make you more sluggish in following drive attempts or overcompensate laterally.

Defensive Assist is basically like training wheels for on-ball D. If you know how to ride a bike well, you take off the training wheels, because they end up compromising your handling.
