Scoring as a Dman

I play LD with a right handed shot and my problem is properly utilizing screens. Is there any key on when to shoot or where? I feel like the goalie always tracks a puck and will make the save when screened. In my opinion the best way to get shots through is to shoot low but low shots have a very small chance of scoring. So is there anyway to send one to the back of the net when a screen is in front?

I always shoot towards the screening player.

Do you mean directly at or shooting at openings to the net? How successful is that method at scoring goals?

Re: Scoring as a Dman

Honestly, I think the toughest part about playing defense is that so many of my goals either get tipped or outright blocked by my teammates.

I generally have my accuracy turned down pretty low for slap and wrist shots (I had so many games where I was just putting up 20+ shots per 8 minute period to the AI's 5 or 6) but one thing that does have luck sometimes is when you're playing LD as a right handed shot, you skate from the blue line and get close to the slot before shooting. You skate down, between the defending forwards, and I have a bit of luck with firing the puck as a slapshot towards the left side of the net if I'm skating in as an LD, or waiting until there are some players between myself and the goalie to screen, and just flicking a little wrist shot towards the top-right corner of the net.

A lot of times guys will still get miracle deflections and mess up your perfect shot, but sometimes you'll get lucky.

Re: Scoring as a Dman

Low wrist shots have the best chance of being deflected if you have a teammate standing in front of the net.

Shooting high slap shots/one timers to the stick side has the best chance of beating the goalie cleanly.

If you're player locked onto a defenseman you can call for a one timer when your teammate has the puck by holding the left trigger and pressing up on the right joystick.

I only play with the Nashvile Predators in 1 vs. 1 games so I'm very used to scoring from the point.
