Quick vs Superstar: worth the upgrade?

I'm curious to read people's experience with this in M16.

I've finally got a franchise rookie QB that I'm planning on using for 10 years. His only "flaw" is he's quick dev, not super*. Well, he won rookie of the year and got a good chunk of year end goal experience. If I'm ever going to spend the 17000 Xp required to give him superstar, I need to save that chunk ( I think it will take me most of next season to get the rest of the 17k)

So I guess my question is: what does superstar do (really) and is it worth it? Is it more than just a game prep boost? Would hate to try and recoup 17k in 20 xp increments...

Or does it affect regression and in game goal xp? Anyone have experience? Advice needed!

Quick vs Superstar: worth the upgrade?

It's easy to get normal dev qbs maxed out. I wouldn't spend the xp on the dev upgrade.

Example: Mariota is a normal dev. In my franchise, he is 28 and has 99 in short and medium accuracy, 90-ish deep accuracy, throw on the run and play action somewhere in the mid 80s, and 99 awareness. QB xp modifier is normal(or close)

Yes, it can be worth it…depending on a few factors. Age, starting overall, accuracy and injury.
  • Age – Players that are under 23 are worth it as generally their development rate is 13500XP and they will retire later and still have cheaper attributes for longer.
  • Starting overall – if the QB comes in as a mid 80’s rookie, it’s worth developing the development as it means when it comes to resigning them after their rookie contract, their OVR wont be so high it breaks the bank.
  • Accuracy – I use quite harsh sliders on all-pro (human accuracy at 7) so if they have low accuracy, it might be worth holding off developing him as he will be throwing tonnes of duds as you wait to upgrade his dev.
  • Injury – If their injury is low you might not be on the field a tonne (I play injury 65), so investing in his injury means he will be on the field more for more XP and if he is injury prone you won’t feel like you sunk 13-20k XP into a player you grow sick off.
So basically, if he is young (under 23), highly rated out of the box, accurate and has decent durability, well worth the upgrade. The dev trait will make all purchases cheaper, earn more XP from all the goals (so earning XP twice as fast and double the amount combined) and I believe play better (I feel there is something about superstar players play at a higher level than their traits and attributes).
It’s not worth it if they are older, injured a lot, have poor attributes (like a late round gem) and you want to be in “win now” mode so have less time to develop players and don’t plan on keeping your CFM beyond 5ish years.

The superstar trait makes things cheaper?

He's 22 I think, with good injury. I'll prolly upgrade him. I expect to play quite a few seasons. He's decent now, and I think I could get through next year even if he does not get more immediate upgrades.

I've noticed the superstars playing above their ratings...I've got a SS, that from looking at his stats, you'd think he's mediocre at best. But damn...the guy is a playmaker. He's everywhere and clutch to boot (without the trait). He had three interceptions in last years Super Bowl and was MVP.

Yeah I'm curious about that as well. I never realized that if it's true.

Yes, age and development (I think) are what control the cost of attribute upgrades. So SS get things cheaper than quick, then normal then slow. It's not hugely noticeable, but try it, upgrade the dev and then recheck the attribute costs. Over the lifetime of a player it can make a difference.

Ha the questioning made me doubt myself but I do think it's true. I'll have to recheck it myself (been a while).

Re: Quick vs Superstar: worth the upgrade?

Purchasing a Game Prep trait when upgrading your coach will give you discounts on all players development traits when upgrading players.

For example:

I'm upgrading my QB and it costs 6,000 XP to purchase the Clutch trait. If I go into upgrade coach and purchase the QB Game Prep package under the Player Progression tab, my QB's Clutch trait, along with his other traits that pertain to his development, will now be discounted and only costs 5,000 or so.

Just pick any player at any position, check how much it would cost to upgrade his traits (not attributes, just traits), go into upgrade coach and purchase the Game Prep trait for that players position, then go back and check the costs of that players trait and you will see his traits costs less to purchase.

This very true, but the question is does the players development change cost. Coach trait would be something in addition.

I should be able to test this...my quick guy is closing in on the 17k he needs.
