Serious Question About Reigns

The WWE is entirely focused on Roman Reigns at this point. He is in the first and last segment of every Raw, and the entire Royal Rumble -- and possibly the whole Road to Wrestlemania -- is built around him. They have spared no expense to use every resource available to facilitate Reigns getting over (and even then, he usually gets a tepid response). With Cena injured, Reigns is the main focus of WWE marketing.

Even though WWE is presumably an ensemble show, in a sense, Reigns has been developed into the main character over the last few months. If somebody isn't a fan (and that's a valid response -- we're not here to argue his merits as the face of the company), what does that person gain from even watching at this point?

Re: Serious Question About Reigns

It all reminds me of the reign of Super Cena many years ago, but at least he was receiving a response from the crowd, whether positive or negative. Crowds nowadays seem rather apathetic towards Reigns and most wrestlers. That might have a lot to do with booking and the constant need for people to trade wins. I can't remember a time when a heel wasn't portrayed as a chicken **** character. It's hard to take Bray Wyatt seriously, when he's been on the losing end of most of his feuds lately. People watch because they love wrestling, grew up with it and so on. We're just lucky that there are other promotions we can check out, if we're no longer entertained by what WWE has to offer.

Re: Serious Question About Reigns

Well he is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion...

Look at the Royal Rumble card, they've done a great job building it. Yes their MAIN champion is the main focus of the show...so what? You don't like him, okay, enjoy the other areas of the show (which have been good, of course imo) and wait for the next main champion to take over.

Re: Serious Question About Reigns

Is this asking what I gain from still watching WWE, despite the focus being on Reigns? Well I was watching for Cesaro and Owens, and hoping that they give the women a good chance, well just Sasha and Becky. And now waiting for some certain debuts. I really don't dedicate my Monday nights to Raw anymore, I typically put Raw on my laptop and play video games during that time on my TV. But Wednesdays at 7PM, now that I drop everything for an hour.

Re: Serious Question About Reigns

Just because Reigns is the champ, doesn't mean there aren't other superstars that I enjoy. Heck, back in the day, I'd rather watch the Intercontinental Title feuds over the WWF Title anyday.

Let's see, Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect or Hogan vs. Slaughter? Geez, what a decision that was...

Re: Serious Question About Reigns

It's like I said in the last Raw thread, it's annoying as heck that they've put so much focus in getting Reigns over while expecting others to get themselves over and then literally killing that once it happens. BESIDES that, there are still some great things with WWE. Owens, Ambrose, Neville, New Day, Stardust (I like the character), just to name a few and I expect some NXT call ups later this year to that will keep me tuned in as well.

Hogan was defending our country from that Iraqi turncoat, Slaughter. How can you not be fired up about that? (turns sarcasm off)

I'm really hoping Ambrose-Owens get the time to tell a good story in their match. I can see that stealing the show.

Re: Serious Question About Reigns

I'm hoping this month was a one off since the Rumble is such a large match and they start doing more storylines after Sunday. I like Reigns but they're not doing themselves any favors by building him up so much and leaving the rest of the roster behind. The only guys on the roster I can see having a shot at beating him are Lesnar, HHH, Cena, and maybe Orton. I'd throw Rollins in there too if he didn't get absolutely slaughtered by Lesnar last summer, but we're probably supposed to forget that happened by now.
