Ridiculous Catches ruin this game

I'm sorry but the new catching mechanic where you can hold the Y button (on Xbox), ruins this game. Wayyyyyy too many ridiculous catches happen. Playing on default All-Pro sliders, and there are not enough pass breakups on deep balls, and too many one handed/10' vertical leap catches/falling back/sideways catches.

Ruined the game.

Re: Ridiculous Catches ruin this game

I aree that they need to tweak the animations.

And really I do think that the one on one's are still a bit overpowered. Anytime I am faced with a 1 on 1 with nobody over the top I almost always take the shot, regardless of what WR it is, and that just isn't realistic. Yea if a Dez, Megatron, Julio, Beckham, etc. has a 1 on 1 you're going to get him the ball. But I shouldn't be able to throw it up to my 79 ovr WR in one on one coverage and him come down with it half the time with a 1 handed grab.

But like I said, I think the biggest thing is tweaking the animations. Maybe add more one on one catches by the WR and tweak the frequency of the 1 handed catches (like to 1 a season maybe....)

EDIT: If you really think about it though, there's a reason they put it in the game. It sells. It looks exciting. So it is overused in the game because if they didn't have it in there people would call the game boring and not buy it

What annoys me is when they are able to make a normal catch and make a ridiculous jumping falling catch instead. It's cost me TDs before, receiver breaks open pass is on target and they go for a spectacular catch for no reason rather than catching the ball in stride and running in for a score

Not feeling the ruin at all here. Watch Sports Center, nearly every game, college and pro, has at least one ridiculous one handed catch. I'm personally feeling pretty good about the break up to to ridiculous catch ratio.

I agree that it is still overpowered. I am usually a run first player, and a decent one at that, because I suck at long range passing. Always have. I feel that I can heave it up and come down with it more than I should. Feels cheap at times. If I am I one on one, I feel ok about. I catch way too many in double/triple coverage IMO.

Play as the Eagles. I complete like 1 every 4 games and when I don't half of them get picked off.

To me it's perfect as it is right now as far as how consistently it works. Even in my Franchise I have setup to play any game I want when I have great WR's I haven't felt like it is a gimme.

I've tried to go at the best guys and they aren't pulling down every one but a good QB and WR are definitely a better combo than bad.

I am not disputing that people feel it's too easy, I just think it's really been right on in my experiences.

I play on all-pro default sliders as well and since the last patch and one before I think game plays great so I don't know what he's talking about crazy one hand catches.

They may happen but if they do they not out of control I guess game plays different on different consoles or something.

And far as not enough pass break ups that's all I see on deep passes yea complete some but most are broke up.

Re: Ridiculous Catches ruin this game

I honestly feel like the bigger problem is still deep balls being thrown on the money too often. If a ball is perfectly thrown where the WR is always in the best position to go up and high point it, they are gonna go up and get them more often than not in real life. One of the problems with accuracy in this game is it seems to be all or nothing. The QB either misses the throw by 5 yards or puts it right on the money, there needs to be more slight underthrows, slight overthrows, slightly off target inside outside, enabling more situations for a wider variety of DB/WR interaction outcomes to trigger. There needs to be more variation in ball placement and DBs, regardless, definitely need to play the ball better.

The whole "play ball, play man" mechanic needs to be scrapped, DBs need to play organically and realistically. If a DB has the aggressive play ball trait that shouldn't mean he gets stuck in a catch animation on a ball he has no business trying to catch and because he does so he gets beat for a 60 yard TD, that just isn't realistic.

Basically, I think they need to change why outcomes are happening. I almost feel like at the moment its too convoluted
