Re: Explain a Couple of Strategy Sliders???
Cycle/Shoot slider decides whether your team in the offensive zone will pass more, and look more for an open man, better shot, rather than take the shots. Sliding it towards shoot, will cause them to take more shots, which may not score most of the time, but has more chances to score, since more shots inherently equals the possibility of getting one through. Consider whether your other strategies put people in front of the net to cause screens, or deflections, or to pick up rebounds, which are more likely to score than just a straight shot the goalie can see. That's when you want to shoot more. Consider also your players, who has higher shot accuracy, defensemen from the point who can blast from the point, and people with good hand eye that can deflect or get to open pucks on rebounds. That would make you want to shoot more, rather than cycle, generally. Don't forget as well, grinders, defensive forwards, and such are not the best to pass it around without getting intercepted, so look at all your team, and make the overall decisions for the team and/or line.
Hold line/pinch, you might really know more than you think. Pinch means when the puck is coming up to the halfboard area, a defensemen will be more likely to come in from the blue line area to try to keep the puck in your team's possession, or at least keep it in the zone. The risk is they pinch and they don't get to the puck, or they lose a battle for it, they can get caught in the offensive zone, and the opposing team can make a breakout pass and get a 2 on 1 in your end.
Hold the line means instead, they will stay back and simply try to keep the puck in the offensive zone from there, but this lets them be ready to stay back if the opposing team ends up with possession. I watched a lot of times when the CPU team gets possession, someone on their team is all the way up at the red line or further, waiting for a pass, so this is something to be on the lookout for.
I don't know if the CPU teams have varying strategies based on the type of team they have, or they simply start in the middle and become more aggressive if they are down by a couple of goals, or become more defensive or careful when they have a lead, without regard for the kind of team they have, the kind of players on the team.
But that's the answer to the two sliders you asked about. The overall team sliders let you choose aggression overall, which is more towards pinching, shooting, taking chances to get get good scoring chances, and then each line lets you choose more towards cycling/shooting, holding the line/pinching, individually for each line.
