Do cards always count towards your collection?

I haven't really been able to find any confirmation on this. I know that I have been reaching my collector levels before I should (for example: I think I got Ray Allen at like 390 cards instead of 400) and have seen the same happen for other people.

Does anyone know for sure? I would like to sell some of these useless players after I get the team basketball for completing these collections.

No they don't! Some cards in your collection are not in the catalogue yet. For instance I had 3 ROTYs before the release of the cards, so I got my 250 cards reward at 247 cards. I have 300 cards now and I have already bought and sold another 150-200 cards in the last two weeks and didn't get Ray Allen. Only the cards in your collection counts towards the reward.
