Position Switch = Massive OVR changes on OL

I have my LG, C, RG, RT scheme preferences set at "Run Blocker".

I drafted a 76 OVR Center, I noticed on the Depth Chart that he was 84 OVR as a OG. I switched the position just to check and sure enough he skyrocketed to 84 OVR.

If I have both positions (Center and Guard) set to "Run Blocker" which emphasize the same attributes...why the big change in OVR? Any ideas?

The center position (I wouldn't quote me on this, I haven't gotten any proof) seems to value awareness, toughness, and some other attributes over run and pass blocking. If you played Madden 15, when scouting centers the first few attributes on the list were very different from the other 4 positions.

This is just a theory, however. If this is the case, it's probably to simulate the center as the "leader" of the oline like they are in the NFL.

Found this chart based on each position how the overall is calculated. Don't know how accurate it is.

Yeah there is a thread on this about setting schemes. Be sure and do not overlook that sometimes it is better to have a scheme that doesnt match the player so dont just look at the player and see that he is "one-cut" and set the scheme to one-cut. If their skills/attributes match one of the other schemes better, their overall will be better. For an example. Kline Davis is a one-cut HB, but his overall is better if your scheme is power-back since his trucking is so high.

By the higher overall only affects games you simulate, right? I mean their skills aren't going up so on field it would make no difference, correct?

I can't say for sure what attributes make this lower for center than a guard.

I'm using 2 teams with bad centers & since madden doesn't have an attribute for snapping the ball, I'm using a guard at center for both teams. Each of them are around 83-84 as a run blocking LG & then like 78 ovr at center.

It's really better to look at all the key attributes for your players & not pay a ton of attention to the scheme/depth chart OVR.

The OVR formula values given in that article are incorrect.

Post #272 on this page clarifies it:

Re: Position Switch = Massive OVR changes on OL

everytime I've drafted a center, he's had much higher OVR rating when moved to other offensive line positions. most notable was a 72 OVR center who was an 80 guard and tackle. and everytime I've tried moving a guard or tackle to center, their OVR goes way down.
