Man + Zone?

Hey folks, I am running a 3–4 defense, and I like to play man with my corners and zone with everyone else. But I can't seem to find any plays that are set up like that. I find I have to constantly call audibles just to manage that.

Is that not something real teams do? Does anyone know where I can find plays like that?

Re: Man + Zone?

There's only one play that does that and it's a cover 2 play where the corners man the outside receivers and the backers play middle zones

Cover 2 sink has the outside corners play man. Also I like to call zone blitz plays and then but the blisters in coverage. Dime defense has alot of good db blitzes that can become man/zone combos

No, that is not something real teams do.. With certain pattern matching schemes it may appear that way against some route combinations, but no, it would be unsound to cover the field that way.

You have too few players to cover the entire field with your zones. You can't leave the area vacated by the CB's uncovered, as anyone running routes to the sideline would be uncovered.

There's several other problems with a 5 man zone with no blitz, but that first reason should be more than enough to get away from the idea.

It he plays online, that might be a good play. A lot of guys ignore the flat routes and try to throw over the middle a lot.

Anyway, to TC another thing you can do is to call a man coverage play, and then use the LB audible "Zone All" on the XB1 I believe it is RB then right stick up. It puts all linebackers in yellow zones.

Re: Man + Zone?

Call a man blitz, and put your blitzing LBs/DBs into zones that make sense for the situation and your opponent's tendencies.

This is it, you run a half zone half man to man like that you'll get killed. Their is a reason it's not used in the NFL. Sure, you might make it work a time or two, but against anyone with half a brain you'll get killed.
