Fun & Challenging Ways to Mix Things Up in Franchise Mode

I'm looking for a challenge this year for my offline Franchise. The past couple of years it's been a little too easy to get a powerhouse going. I'd love if there was an expansion team mode, but I'm thinking I'll try and do a big rebuild of a crappy team.

Maybe take the Browns and trade Manziel for a future pick or take the Rams and trade Foles away.

Fantasy draft is an option, but I feel like I tend to always get a sweet team compared to the CPUs.

What are some scenarios/storylines you incorporate in to your franchises to make them more fun and challenging?

Trade all players from the Patriots to the Jaguars and see if Jacksonville can win.

Well if Jacksonville can't win with that, they might as well go to London.

Leaning now towards taking Detroit and swapping Stafford, Megatron, and Ngata for draft picks and building around Ameer Abdullah.

Take over the Bills and build around Tyrod Taylor. That's my plan.

Since it's being suggested that we hold off on starting our franchises, I'm just running a test one with the Falcons. Hoping to figure out the sliders and get accustomed to scouting before I start with the Lions.

But I did trade Matt Ryan away for a 2nd rd pick and I'm rolling with Matt Flynn. Won my first preseason game in overtime no less... but man Matt Flynn was erratic in the first quarter. Should be interested to see how it plays out.

Me and my friend just use house rules. Makes it more fun for sure. We restrict the amount of trades during the season and offseason, max draft picks and can only resign 2 players per season and franchise tag. It depends on what team you pick but after 1 season we found ourselves actually having to delve into FA more. Also any trade has to at least border realistic. At the start of season 2 his team an 82 during year 1 was a 77. Mine stayed at 81 but I didn't lose Eli manning and replace him with jimmy garoppolo. 😀
