Playing as an Independent

I'm thinking of taking overy BYU or taking another team independent. What has been your experience playing as an independent?

Do the seasons begin to feel tedious when you aren't competing for a conference championship? Is scheduling a hassle with most teams playing conference games at the end of the season?

Re: Playing as an Independent

im currently playing as an independent with my team builder team cleveland state. i started out as a 1 star and went 7-5 my first year. i didnt get a bowl bid. so that kinda sucked. but scheduling wise it wasnt so bad and it was a nice change of pace from playing in the mac. getting to schedule anyone i wanted with diferent opponents. but having said that after my second year im going to move to the mac. i really do miss competing for a conference championship and i believe i will have a better shot at a bowl game even with a few losses.

That's my fear. ..getting two or the seasons in and feeling like "why am I doing this? what is all this for? "

it is a nice change up as i am always in the mac so it allowed me to schedule different teams. but i do miss playing for a championship. although if you were a highly rated team it might be fun to go for broke on winning the national title.

It's nice in that you get to change up your opponents every year. But the lack of any conference or divisional race tends to put a damper on the excitement toward the end of the year and you don't really develop the long term rivalries you get in a conference.

I think it might be fun to play a full season with only neutral site or road games, which might be best done as an independent. It would be cool to experience 6 or 7 neutral site locations in a single season. You could say that your team's stadium is under renovation or something.
