Line Construction

I'm on NHL 14 but I assume this question could also be applied to 15...

When in games I use auto line changes and the CPU obviously has some sort of algorithm for selecting lines beyond just energy. I’m wondering if I spread my most talented players throughout the lines will it change how the CPU dolls out ice time or will the first line always have the most TOI by a large margin?

I’m asking because I’ve got a few young guys who either aren’t growing despite having solid potential or are actually regressing in season. I’m assuming its because of a lack of ice time.

Finally, I’m curious what other people’s methods are for constructing their lines; Best lines option? Spread out talent? Top guys on top lines always? Stick young guys w/ vets?

Re: Line Construction

I find it gives the ice time to best line based off the players overall.

For example I put Steven Stamkos in the Preseason with some 50 something overall rookie and a tough guy as the 1st line they got 6 minutes in the game.

Re: Line Construction

Thats what I've found as well. Like in a game i was winning big I shifted all my best players down to 3rd and 4th lines to give more ice time to younger guys but the CPU just called up those lower lines more frequently.

In terms of spreading out ice time I just found it easier to raise fatigue effect and recovery in the settings. That way i can spread out my best players so I'm not left with a fourth line that can't do anything.
