Horrendous fielding decisions

One thing that is really bugging me are the hideous fielding decisions.

Runners on 1st and 2nd - batter hits a scream grounder to 1st who scoops up the ball 1 foot from 1st and instead of stepping on the bag throws to 2nd trying to a DP.

Bases loaded - batter hits ball 1 foot in front of catcher who picks up ball and throws to first.

NOW - MAYBE it's a fielding decision by the software saying this catcher is not very good ? Or maybe the 1B is not very good (that has happened 3 times in 12 games now)

The first one isn't a horrendous decision.

How many outs in these situations? Your first one does not bother me at all. If anything it would still keep the dp in order if they did not turn it and also keeps one less runner out of scoring position.

On your second one the sure out is to first if it 2 outs. Especially if the guy on third is breaking on the pitch. Really depends on the situations.

Re: Horrendous fielding decisions

Why not step on 1st, throw to 3rd and go for the triple play.

Or step on 1st and throw to 2nd for an easy DP. He was practically straddling the bag.

Bases loaded and instead of stepping back 6 inches for the out at home throws to 1st letting a run scores

As far as I remember, once you step on first to get the runner out the throw to third would have to be a tag since he is no longer forced to advance. Same rule applies for 2nd base. The throw would have to be perfect from first to get the tag on the base runner without hitting him with the thrown ball.

I could be wrong though.

When you step on 1b, first you take everything out of a force play and make it a tag situation. Which can result in possible rundowns which can lead to errors and advanced bases.

OK - I'll take that - you lose the force - good call.

OR - as what happened - the 1B throws the ball into left field and everybody is safe. LOL

Re: Horrendous fielding decisions

Im not sure if this counts as a horrendous fielding decision, although i guess it is when it keeps happening over and over, a line drive hit to any fielder caught in the air, then i throw to 1st base to double off the runner but when i throw the ball the 1st baseman is somewhere else, usually about halfway between 1st base and the pitchers mound, why isnt he covering 1st, the ball was hit to hard for the 1st baseman to move anywhere close to that far away from the 1st base bag, plus the batter hit a line drive the batter did not bunt, why is the 1st baseman there?
