strike percentages

I am noticing the CPU doesn't seem to work the count or try to draw walKs. I am pitching with dynamic and in the past I always used all star so I don't know if that is a factor. I feel like when I miss with a pitch this year it goes down the middle instead of missing off the pLate once in a while and this leads to the cpu swinging more and not taking walks.

Re: strike percentages

I would try testing out some of the sliders posted here in the forums. I know that with the weaker difficulties you don't get punished as much for missing your spots, especially when it comes to what kind of pitching you are using.

Re: strike percentages

I'm throwing anywhere from 4 to 8 walks a game. Good mix. Just find the right slider set for you.

Re: strike percentages

I've found that I've been walking 1 to 2 players a game. They do work it from time to time, seems like it might just be the general balance. I've found that if they aren't getting on base via hit, they'll foul and battle to work the walk.

Re: strike percentages

Yeah I'm having a hard time getting the CPU to not be so aggressive. I'm getting outs but they are all in the field. I'm averaging a very low number of strikeouts, giving up a lot of hits, and inducing a lot of double plays... all because, in my opinion, an extremely high level of aggression by the CPU at the plate.

Re: strike percentages

Pitching seems excellent to me. Way tighter. That said, I do only use Quick Counts.

I just had a gem with Sabathia where I struck out 10. Then, a dud with Tanaka where he walked 3 and K'd 3 over 5+, giving up 6 runs.

AS was too easy IMO last year. Something about this year just feels right.

Re: strike percentages

One thing to keep in mind in that in order for a batter to work the count, he needs to expect the pitcher throws quite a few pitches out of the strike zone. When a pitcher is pounding the strike zone, it is a mistake for him to work the count, as doing so only puts him into deeper hole.

In real life (in recent years), only about 45% of all pitches are thrown inside the strike zone. The majority of pitches are not strikes if they are taken...

I think in the game it is still substantially easier to command pitches to be in the strike zone, so unless you throw some of your pitches intentionally outside the zone, you will feel that CPU puts everything in play.
