Reverse Splits for Pitchers

Hey everybody!

Quick question here, sorry if it's been asked before, but does anyone know how MLB:TS features pitchers with reverse-splits? IE. Anthony Varvaro is a RH reliever but he may as well be considered a lefty-specialist holding them to a .149/.198/.284/.481 line vs .273/.314/.406/.720 against righties in 2014. Is there anything in the game to handle these sort of pitchers? I know it's easy to see how batters fare against pitcher's-handedness, is there a similar stat in reverse?

Thank you!

Re: Reverse Splits for Pitchers

This is something I always wanted them to expand on cause certain lefties are especially tough on lefties and certain righties are especially tough on righties. It'd be nice to know so I know which lefty in the pen I should designate as my lefty specialist and which I can use against anyone, etc.

You can see a pitchers BAA vs RH and LH, but you can't see the OBP or SLG against each handedness. So you can get a little bit of an idea through BAA numbers but that's it.

I would be interested to see if they do this. I seem to remember reading somewhere that pitcher reverse splits could be kind of "fluky" (but also, some righties were tough on left handed bats and vice versa due to repertoires).

Thanks, I was looking for that but couldn't find it. It's a start for sure. The commentators often say 'this guy is SO tough on lefties' or the like, and I assumed that had to be tied to career numbers. I assume they're in there somewhere, I was just curious to the extent of their valuation in the game.

I don't think pitchers are coded to have intrinsic advantage over certain handedness by platoon attributes as in Contact and Power for hitters. The in-game commentators are simply making general baseball comments I think.

Much of platoon effect derives from the delivery of a pitcher and how his pitches break relative to the hitter, so if the hitter AI in The Show is actually coded to respond to these elements realistically, I would expect some in-game pitchers to have more pronounced platoon advantage over others. But I would not be surprised if the hitting AI isn't that detailed though; otherwise we don't have to have split attributes like Contact & Power for hitters the way they are.

Re: Reverse Splits for Pitchers

I think pitchers with a good changeup/splitter will naturally have a better chance to get the opposite handedness out. I really think SDS would just complicate things with adding a split attribute for pitchers. Plus it can be random and lacking data so adding an attribute for this would not be very ideal.
