The Coaching Legacy of Eddie Foard --- BREAKING: Norfolk State Names Herbert McDonald New Athletic Director  -(Norfolk, Virginia) The Norfolk State athletic department has named Herbert McDonald the new Athletic Director. McDonald will manage all of the NSU Spartan Athletic Teams. McDonald, a former Virginia Tech Hokie golf team member, brings no experience in management to NSU. McDonald seems to have had connections because the Spartans had a multitude of more qualified candidates to choose from. Nevertheless, Herbert McDonald has been chosen to usher in the future of Norfolk State University Spartan Athletics. REPORT: NSU Athletic Director 'It's time to clean house!'  -(Norfolk, Virginia) It has only been a matter of days since Herbert McDonald was officially made the athletic director of Norfolk State. However, this hasn't stopped McDonald from already making a splash. McDonald issued the following statement to the media. "The time has come to clean house here at Norfolk State. Our teams are not competitive and that is simply not acceptable. Expect changes to be made across the board. The Norfolk State University Spartans will enter the upcoming sports season, stronger than ever. Our fans expect that, and I will ensure that this is what they will receive. The future of Spartan athletics is bright!" No official word has been given as to which coaches McDonald intends on firing. It is very likely that nobody is safe at this point as the sports seasons approach. BREAKING: Norfolk State Fires Head Women's Basketball Coach, Debra Clark  -(Norfolk, Virginia) Moments ago, Norfolk State Athletic Director, Herbert McDonald announced that Debra Clark, the head women's basketball coach, was officially fired. Coach Clark has spent 5 seasons with the Spartans. Coach Clark led NSU to a 12-16 record during the 2013-14 season but only managed to go 8-8 in conference play. While the firing comes as a shock to most Spartan fans, it has been made clear that the new Athletic Director has high expectations for Norfolk State. He likely feels as though Coach Clark lacked the potential to take the next step. No word has been given as to who Herbert McDonald will bring in to replace Debra Clark. Rumors have been swirling that McDonald has met with multiple candidates throughout the course of the week. More updates on the coaching situation will be posted as soon as the information becomes available. Debra Clark poured everything that she had into the Norfolk State Spartan Women's Basketball team. She will be missed as a valued member of Spartans' Coaching Staff. BREAKING: Outraged NSU Assistant Coach, Dixon-Gordon, Steps Down  -(Norfolk, Virginia) Earlier this week, Norfolk State Athletic Director, Herbert McDonald, officially fired the Women's Basketball Head Coach, Debra Clark. This news did not sit well with LaShondra Dixon-Gordon. The associate women's basketball coach issued this statement to the media following Debra Clark's firing. "This is a complete and utter outrage. I have no words for how disappointed I am in the leadership of the Norfolk State athletic department. Coach Clark gave her heart and soul to this team. Her players respected her and looked up to her. She was meant to be the leader of this team. It is an absolute embarrassment that the school has decided to let her go. Therefore, I can no longer work here either. My pride and passion is gone after this stupidity. I hope it was worth it to that new athletic director...." Dixon-Gordon stepping down creates yet another void in the NSU Spartan Women's Basketball coaching staff. Athletic Director, Herbert McDonald has been holding private meetings with potential candidates for the empty Women's Basketball head coaching job. There has still been no official word given as to who will replace Debra Clark. McDonald will now have his work cut out for him as he tries to not only replace Clark, but also Dixon-Gordon. Only time will tell if the decision to clean house will benefit Norfolk State Women's Basketball or not.... BREAKING: Eddie T. Foard Named Head Coach of Norfolk State Women's Basketball  -(Norfolk, Virginia) It is official. The Norfolk State Women's Basketball Team has a new Head Coach. Edward T. Foard was introduced today by Herbert McDonald and the rest of the NSU athletic department. Foard, at only 25 years of age, has no experience coaching basketball at a college level. He has spent 3 seasons as the head coach of the lousy South Central High School Girl's Basketball team. During his 3 seasons at SCHS, Foard posted a 4-56 record. This is a questionable hire by anyone's standards. Foard doesn't seem to know what it takes to win at a high school level. No NSU Spartan fans can figure out why Herbert McDonald thinks Foard can find a way to turn all of that failure into success at a higher level. Despite how the Spartan fans feel, Herbert McDonald thinks that Coach Foard has what it takes. The NSU fans will have to learn to live with the questionable hire.... REPORT: Former NSU Women's Basketball Coach Clark, 'Spartans are now a Joke'  -(Norfolk, Virginia) Former NSU Women's Basketball Head Coach, Debra Clark finally broke her silence to a news team following the hiring of Eddie Foard. "This program is now a complete joke. This is an example of how bad management can ruin a once proud program. Herbert McDonald and the rest of the Athletic Department should be ashamed of themselves. They have turned the NSU Spartan program into a complete and total joke...." Former Coach, Clark, seems very annoyed by the questionable hiring of Edward Foard. Many NSU fans are right there with her. Only time will tell if Herbert McDonald's gamble on Edward Foard will pay off.... *

The Coaching Legacy of Eddie Foard --- New Norfolk State Women's Basketball Coach 'Ready to Usher in New Era' -(Norfolk, Virginia) For the first time since being officially introduced as the new Spartan head coach, Eddie Foard released a statement to the media about the upcoming women's college basketball season. "I am beyond blessed to have this opportunity to lead this team to be all that it can be. Herbert and others here at the Norfolk State Athletic Department made a way for me so I will not let them down. I am ready to usher in a new era. The future is bright for Norfolk State's Women's Basketball program." New coach Eddie Foard seems optimistic about the upcoming season. Many fans of Norfolk State expect to have a down season after all of the coaching changes. Most feel as though Coach Foard is not qualified and that he will fail at coaching in college just as he did when he was coaching high school girls basketball.... Multiple sources are reporting that Norfolk State has chosen their new associate head coach for the Women's basketball team. The announcement is expected to occur any moment. More information will be posted once it is made available. BREAKING: Connerton Named Norfolk State's Assistant Women's Basketball Coach  -(Norfolk, Virginia) The Norfolk State Athletic Department formally announced that Devin Connerton will be the new Assistant Women's Basketball Coach for the 2014-15 season. Much like Head Coach, Eddie Foard, Connerton brings no experience to the coaching staff. As a former basketball player at Virginia Wesleyan College, Connerton briefly led the team in scoring before a career ending knee injury. Connerton tore both her ACL and MCL at the beginning of her senior year and had to watch her team suffer through the season without her. Determined to bring the passion that she played with to the coaching staff, the 22 year old Connerton hopes to help contribute to the youngest coaching staff in Division 1 Women's College Basketball. The lack of experience on the Norfolk State Coaching Staff may prove to be a problem as the season progresses. Herbert McDonald and the rest of the Athletic Department have taken a major gamble by cleaning house and hiring youthful replacements. For their sake, hopefully this major gamble will pay off. REPORT: Coach Connerton 'New Faces creates Fresh Start for Spartans'  -(Norfolk, Virginia) Devin Connerton has wasted no time making a name for herself around the Norfolk State Women's Basketball Program. Coach Connerton was seen working out with the team and pushing her players to the limit. Coach Connerton also played in a scrimmage game and managed to hold her own. However, the 22 year old Connerton knows that a lot of responsibility will fall on her shoulders as the Assistant Women's Basketball coach of Norfolk State. She issued this statement to the media regarding her expectations for the coming season. "When it is all said and done, I want to be able to confidently say that we were able to get the best out of all of the girls. We haven't had lofty expectations around this program so players have been able to settle and not push themselves. That's no longer the case. Coach Foard and I have been running the girls up and down, non-stop. We will be ready to fight this season. We're going to be an entirely new Spartan team!" Coach Connerton was dripping in sweat as reporters interviewed her following a team practice. Her hard work and dedication appear to be there. Hopefully positive results will follow. *

The Coaching Legacy of Eddie Foard 2014-2015 Norfolk State Spartans Season Preview  Norfolk State failed to inspire anyone last season. With a lackluster 12-16 finish along with only an 8-8 record in MEAC play, many considered NSU to be a pushover. New head coach Eddie Foard has vowed to usher in a new era that will transform them into a contender. Coach Foard has implemented an entirely new offense that is fast-paced, and geared to get his players the ball in the best possible position to score. Senior shooting guard, Rae Corbo, is the only proven scoring threat from last season. Corbo will be called upon to be the star of the team, and provide leadership. However, she will not be able to guide the Spartans to the top by herself. Therefore, players such as Ebony Brown and Aiva Parham will need to establish themselves as scoring threats to help lessen the scoring load that Corbo has to shoulder. Only time will tell if Coach Foard will actually be able to generate enough offense outside of Corbo to be competitive in the wide open MEAC conference. Point Guards Koryn Lawrence  Koryn Lawrence will be running the offense under new head coach Eddie Foard. After struggling during her freshman season (4.3 ppg 42.5 FG%) Lawrence will have to adjust quickly if she hopes to hold onto the starting PG spot. It doesn't help that she is playing out of position due to star-SG Rae Corbo. However, Coach Foard praised Lawrence's ability to run the offense during the preseason. Only time will tell if she has what it takes to man the point in Coach Foard's new fast-paced offense. Dominique Harper  Projected by many to be the starting point guard this season, Dominique Harper will have to settle for coming off the bench behind Koryn Lawrence. Harper and Lawrence battled it out over the preseason but in the end, Coach Foard opted to go with Lawrence for the starting job. He cited that Lawrence fit his system better. Coach Foard did go onto say that he was thrilled to have talent like Harper coming off the bench. While Lawrence is the starting PG now, look for Harper to play hard in an attempt to take her spot. Jazamine Gray  Jazamine Gray has been struggling in Coach Foard's new fast-paced offense. Nagging injuries caused Gray to have a horrible 2013-14 season (2.5 ppg, 35 FG%) The Senior will likely have to fight hard in order to earn playing time behind with all of the talent in the Spartan backcourt. Brehanna Daniels  Junior PG Brehanna Daniels will likely not see much playing time either unless multiple Spartan guards suffer injuries. Rumors have been circulating that Daniels requested a redshirt this season in order to allow some of the girls over her on the depth chart to graduate. Daniels felt that she would be able to play more once that happened. Coach Foard denied her request, so Daniels will likely play sparingly this season. Shooting Guards Rae Corbo  Rae Corbo will be looked upon as the Senior Leader of this Spartan basketball team. Having led the team in scoring a season ago, Corbo knows what it takes to be the main option on a limited team. Corbo hopes that Coach Foard's new offensive system will help her take her game to a new level in her final season as a Norfolk State Spartan. While Corbo is certainly capable of lighting up the scoreboard, Coach Foard has implemented a system that should help spread the ball around to her teammates for easy shots. This should lighten the scoring burden of Corbo quite a bit. However, Corbo will need to be the star of this team if they are going to have any chance at making a run at the MEAC Conference Championship. Kieera Basey  It is tough playing behind the star player of the team. Basey found that out the hard way last season on her way to averaging 2.0 ppg on 27 FG%, despite playing nearly 20 minutes a night. Coach Foard is counting on Basey to provide quality minutes while Corbo comes out for brief rests. Basey needs to step up her game a lot if Norfolk State is going to be competitive this season. Corbo can only do so much by herself. Small Forwards Ebony Brown  Ebony Brown will be counted on to be a leader of this Norfolk State team. Coach Foard has praised Ebony's growth within his system and swears that she is poised to have a career year. With Rae Corbo as the only other main scoring threat, Ebony Brown needs to score as much as possible for the Spartans to be competitive. Ronesia Spicer  The Spartans may be in need of scoring threats, but Ronesia Spicer isn't the answer. However, Spicer never shies away from launching shot after shot when she checks into the game. When Spicer gets hot, she is hard to stop. Sadly, she is off most of the time so she tends to shoot the Spartans out of a lot of games if Rae Corbo can't carry them by herself. Coach Foard has worked with Spicer throughout the preseason, but still referred to her as "trigger-happy" during an interview. Power Forwards Aivah Parham  One of the biggest priorities for Coach Foard when he began working with Norfolk State was developing the post game. This all starts with Aivah Parham. The senior PF will be asked to step her game up to a new level in an attempt to alleviate some of the scoring load off of Rae Corbo. Establishing a reliable post game is essential to making Coach Foard's offense work effectively. Parham is the only Senior big so it will be up to her to provide leadership to the youth around her. Amber Brown  Amber is the younger sister of Ebony Brown. Amber struggled a lot during her Freshman season. Her game did not transfer well to the college level and former head coach Debra Clark was unable to develop her. Coach Foard hopes to get his post players more involved which will likely lead to Amber getting better opportunities to score in the low post. Centers Shayla Tanner  Standing at 6'3", Shayla Tanner is a force near the rim. Her trouble has been establishing good position inside. Coach Foard has worked with Tanner on her footwork and has gotten the lanky Center into the weight room in hopes that she can build her strength up as she develops her game. Coach Foard is high on this young freshman. Look for him to call a lot of plays for her to see if he can get her off to a solid start this season. Roberts Sisters   Nia Roberts, and her younger sister, Kayla, will be expected to become factors on the low post. The sisters have great size, and great instincts when it comes to rebounding. However, both are raw when it comes to scoring. Norfolk State will need them to develop as the season progresses, or conference play will be brutal. REDSHIRT Io Chaney  Due to the depth on the Norfolk State roster, Freshman Io Chaney has elected to utilize a Redshirt this season. She will begin her 1st year of NCAA eligibility during the 2015-2016 NCAA season. 2014-2015 Preseason MEAC Awards Rae Corbo  All-MEAC 3rd Team While Rae Corbo is only projected to make the All-MEAC 3rd team, watch for her to jump to the 1st team in Coach Foard's new fast-paced, high-octane offense. With most of the scorers from last year's team gone, Corbo will have more opportunities to look for her shot as her teammates develop into reliable scoring options.
