Help with Usering Defensive Ends and Tackles (pmv/fmv moves)

is this pretty much a random deal, either it works or it doesn't? folks have said it has to be "timed" right, but it just feels so random regardless. Last years madden and versions before it I honestly felt I had more control of triggering the moves.. not so much this year.

If ya got some tips pls share them

Last year i actually had a strategy to using the pass rush moves. Now? I spam x as much as possible, or sometimes a if he's on the edge of the lineman. Sadly, i still get 25+ sacks a season this way, so i stopped using them
