Can Bortles Rescue Jacksonville? A Jaguars Dynasty

Shahid Khan Sells Jaguars to Tony Boselli

After closing the sale in June of 2012 from Wayne Weaver, Shahid Khan became the first minority owner of an NFL Franchise. With two seasons under his belt, the Jaguars managed to go 2-14, and 4-12, a combined record of 6-26 in two years, with the former being the worst record in franchise history. After the teams poor success, Khan has decided to pursue his dream in owning a Premier League soccer team in England. With the deal closed, Khan will move to England to help run his new franchise Fulham FC.

Leaving a spot available as owner of Jacksonville, Khan made contact with the Jaguars first ever pick in the 1995 draft, Tony Boselli. A man who performed in various business ventures in his time after football, Boselli seemed like a wise candidate to take over as new owner. His entrepreneurial skills helped him start a Mattress Firm with former players Mark Brunnell and Bryan Schwartz. He also owns all of the Whataburger franchises in the Jacksonville area with Brunell. His experience running these successful business has bought him an opportunity of a lifetime, and one that was just granted by the NFL. The Jacksonville resident will begin his reign on August 1, 2014.

Will be giving this slider set a try, hoping for more of a challenge from them, as I found most All-Pro sliders I've tested to be fairly easy. With some minor tweaks for myself, hopefully it'll present a challenge. If anything, I'll change them and edit the changes here.

Re: Can Bortles Rescue Jacksonville? A Jaguars Dynasty

Media Day

Peter Schrager (NFL Insider): You headed up a group of investors to potentially buy a franchise, and now you have one. Why did you want to be an owner so bad?

Boselli: Truthfully it's the fans. They were so great to me during my time as a player that I just wanted to stay involved in the game and give back to them. An opportunity like this doesn't present itself very often, and I felt it was the right time to make my next move, as the new owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Ticket Prices
Per Winning Season +10%
Per Losing Season -15%

Schrager: Heading into the first week of preseason, what are some of your goals?

Boselli: My job during the preseason is to get everyone ready for the regular season. For this week, I've told coach Bradley to make sure he has the team prepped for the Bucaneers. It seemed to me he spent some extra time with quarterback Blake Bortles, receivers Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts, as well as our safety Jonathan Cyprien.

Schrager: Heading into this season, we have you ranked 32nd, as the least valuable NFL franchise. What are your views on turning that around?

Boselli: A lot of it comes down to our revenue and crunching numbers. Our board will be focusing on trying to get the numbers just right, for example the ticket prices, merchandise available for purchase, as well as all the concessions. However none of this will be helpful if our team doesn't perform. The more successful our team can be, the greater our team revenue in return.

Schrager: The stadium itself, EverBank Field, is 19 years old already. From what I see, it could use a lot of work at this point? Any ideas for improvement?

Boselli: Yes our stadium could use a little work, and ideas have been flowing as to how we can make it better. upgrading certain weak aspects, such as parking, the team store, and the bathrooms will certainly appease the fans. There's also been talk of rebuilding a new stadium in general, but we'll see where that talk will take us.

Schrager: Lastly, you drafted quarterback Blake Bortles with your first pick, will he be starting for you this year.

Boselli: That decision I have ultimately left to coach Bradley, and who he feels will be our better option going forward this season. The last I checked, Bortles was the second stringer, with Chad Henne getting first team reps.

Jaguars Sneak Away with Overtime Win

On the first snap of the opening drive, the Jaguars drew a penalty for a false start, not the best way to start your first drive of the new year. On the next snap Henne gets sacked for an 11 yard loss. The offense was unable to convert a first down, and brings the defense onto the field for the first time. The Bucaneers offense was no match for the Jaguars, as they marched down the field and scored a touchdown, with Murphy Jr catching a 4 yard pass from M. Glennon. With the ensuing kickoff, TB kicks it out of bounds, and JAX get to start on their 40-yard line. Henne ended up going 4/4 for 56 yards, with Cecil Shorts completing 3 receptions 43 yards and a touchdown. With a strong defensive stand, the Jaguars managed to hold the Bucaneers to a punt.

In what would be the final drive for Chad Henne, on his first passing attempt he threw into double coverage, and had the ball intercepted by D. Goldson. The defense came out and held their ground, but with a 4th and 5 coming up, Glennon completed a pass to M. Evans for 17 yards. Ultimately, it led to the James punching it on 2nd and goal to give the Bucs a 14-7 lead.Leading up to the moment all Jaguars fans were waiting for, Bortles took the field for the first time in his NFL career. He completed a touchdown scoring drive, completing 6/8 passes for 61 yards. Jaguars fans couldn't believe how poise he was in the pocket, aware of everything going on around him. While threatening to score just before half, Bortles ended another good drive with an interception in the redzone, preventing the Jaguars from taking a lead going into halftime.

With both teams struggling early in the second half, the Buccaneers capitalized with their second drive, which saw J. McCown passing too E. Page for a 16 yard touchdown catch. With 3:43 let in the 3rd quarter, Bortles threw a second interception, once against to W. Wright, who has his second interception of the day. Managing to get a few yards, the Bucs got into field goal range, and C. Barth put it through the posts to give TB a 24-14 lead late in the third quarter.

Having the offense go three and out once again, the defense came alive managed to get a turnover by way of a W. Blackmon interception. Wonderful coverage to give the offense a chance at coming back in this game. The Jags came out with with a play action pass. Bortles heaves the ball to Sanders who completes the catch for a 22 yard gain. On the next snap, Bortles shot a bullet to Harbor, who caught the pass, broke a tackle, and fought his way for a 31 yard gain. Bortles made his third completion on a slant pattern to wide receiver Lee for 17 yards. Two plays later, Bortles ended the drive with a TD pass to Doss. 4 completions to 4 different receivers to give bring back Jacksonville to within in.

The Bucs offense picked up a false start penalty to start them 5 yards back. With the extra help, the JAX defense managed to make the Bucs offense off the field, bring Bortles back on yet again. On second down, Bortles noticed a blitz coming. He proceeded with a HB screen and got a nice 22 yard gain from Todman. Calling 4 verticals on the next play, Bortles made the throw over the top down the middle to Harbor for another 22 yard catch. With a chance to take the lead, Bortles threw his third interception at the two yard line. This makes it three for him on the day.

TB managed to burn some time off the clock, but in the end, JAX strong second half defensive performance continued, forcing TB to punt. JAX received the ball on their 18 yard line with 3:24 remaining. After two first downs, JAX sits on their 45 yard line at the 2 minute warning. After failing on third and 7, the Jaguars were forced to attempt a field goal attempt. Scobee managed hit a 49 yard kick, tying the game at 24. The Buccaneers scrambled to march up field, but back-to-back sacks from the Jags sends this game into overtime.

Winning the coin toss, the Jaguars will have the first shot at winning this game. However, a couple poor passing decision led to a quick punt for JAX. The Bucs offense threatened early, but struggled to gain positive yardage once they crossed midfield. Another chance is all Bortles wanted. He told his offense in the the huddle to slow the game down, and let it come to them. Mixing up a variety of play, he managed to get the team to field goal distance. Scobee comes in and kicks a 53 yard bomb to give Jacksonville its first win of the season!

Mid-Week Recap

*Every week, the board gets together for a weekly review and to discuss all financial matters*

Boselli: Let's start off by checking our team revenue this week. As you can see from the table below, we've managed to net a $1.39M profit this week.

photo.JPG

Boselli: Now I know we can do a better job than this, thats certain. Now give me a recap and what changes we can make.

The Board: Well firstly, all our ticket prices seem to be at just the right spot. I think if we keep them there it'll be our biggest area of profitability. Now heading over the the merchandise sector, I've noticed a couple items we could lower to attract more interest from fans. According to twitter, there were tweets mentioning how expensive our Blake Bortles Nike Jersey is. If we lower it from $110 to $100 we should attract more buyers. We should do the say for Storm Johnson's jersey. Also, the Nike KO Sweatshirt should be dropped to $50.

Boselli: Well what are you waiting for, get on that ASAP! And how are the concession prices.

The Board: Yes sir. As far as concessions, we should focus on two things. The first is coffee. No one wants to pay $5 for a cup of coffee. We should try lowering it to $4. Secondly, I've heard people mention that the tacos are also too expensive, maybe we should give that a lower price as well.

Boselli: Let's get on with it then! Profit margins are key!

Re: Can Bortles Rescue Jacksonville? A Jaguars Dynasty

Coaches Quarter

Boselli: Hello, Coach Bradley, how are you doing today?

Bradley: I'm doing fine just going over the roster so I can make the final cuts for this week.

Boselli: Who will be getting cut this week?

Bradley: Starting off, I think CB Jamell Fleming should go. He's played two years now and is behind everyone else in the group as far as development. He just hasn't showed me he can perform on this level. That'll free us up $410k in cap room, but incur a penalty of $300k.

Boselli: That's fine with me. Who else?

Bradley: Next, I'll be cutting two MLB. Allen Bradford and Nathan Stupar. We have good depth at MLB. Posluszny is our starter hands down and Reynolds will have a chance to learn as the backup. That'll free us up $870K in cap room, with only a $40k penalty.

Boselli: Sounds good...

Bradley: After looking at our defensive tackles, I believe Jordan Miller should be let go. Everyone else is outplaying him so far in camp and the preseason. That'll give us $500k in cap room.

Boselli: Whose going to be the last?

Bradley: We're going to let go WR Kerry Taylor. We have a promising young class of receivers and it'll free us up another $400K in cap room.

Boselli: That settles this week's cuts. How was practice been going?

Bradley: Very well, I spent time after practice with the quarterbacks and receivers. Bortles really looks like he's learning the offense. Making some great connections with Cecil Shorts and Justin Blackmon. Can't wait for the next game.

Boselli: Me as well. Good luck in Chicago!

Jags Rout Bears in Second Preaseason Game

Chad Henne started off the game going 0/3 in the passing game. Gerhart managed to get 14 rush yards, but besides that the offense was unproductive. With the Bears receiving the ball, Cutler drove the length of the field and finished with a touchdown pass to Bennett.

On the ensuing drive, the Jaguars made it their goal to run the ball. Henne went 2/3 and with the excellent running, the Jags capped the drive with a 3 yard TD run by Storm Johnson. The games all tied up at 7-7. On the first snap of the drive for the Bears, Cutler throws a pick to Martin, who intercepts it and runs it into the endzone. 14-7 Jags!

The Bears marched down the field, on a big run from Forte and a long pass fom Cutler. But once in the redzone, the Jags defense managed to hold the Bears to only a field goal. 14-10 Jags. After a couple defensive stops by both teams, the Jags got the ball back to start another drive. The run game has been unstoppable, and the Jags rushed their way up the field. Once in the redzone, Bortles completed a 19 yard pass to Harbor. 21-10 Jags!

Yet again, on the first snap of the ensuing Bears possession, D. McCray intercepted the pass, giving great field position for Bortles and the offense. Running a 4 verticals play, harbor came up with a circus catch to bring the Jags to the 4 yard line. Two plays later, Storm Johnson ran the ball in again for his second touchdown of the game. 28-10 Jags!

In the third quarter the Jags offense wasted no time. After a rush of 12 yards by Denard Robinson, Bortles threw a deep pass to Harbor, who caught and broke a tackle to score a 56 yard touchdown. 35-10 Jags! The bears offense is just incapable of getting any positive yardage. They have up back to back sacks, with the latter resulting in safety. 37-10 Jags!

The Jags got the ball to start off the 4th quarter. They rushed the ball into the endzone mixing carries between Robinson and Todman. Stanzi capped the drive with a pass to Saunders for the touchdown. 44-10 Jags! Bear get a shot to answer back. They do, with only a field goal. 44-13 Jags.

With an on-side kick, the Bears managed to recover the ball, and continue trying to score more points. They cap the drive on a 12 yard touchdown run by quarterback Fales. 44-20 Jags. With another on-side kick, the Jags recovered the ball and try to run out some clock. On the first play, Robinson fumbles the ball for the second time in the game. The Bears manage to answer with field goal and cut the lead to 44-23.
