Were we suppose to get a code to unlock the $40 in HUT packs? I have the digital download so I have no idea how this works. Can someone help me please?

I think if you get the digital copy, you automatically have it.

I know for Madden digital I had to go back to the PS4 main screen, then on madden you can choose the option to download add-ons, etc... my pre-order add-on was there to download. I was wondering because I was in the 2nd week and did not receive one of my MUT bonus packs, but right after I went to download that pre-order add-on, 3 packs were waiting for me. Maybe for NHL it works the same way

Will they be fully trade-able? Or will they be like the returning user bonus cards where they've got a quick-trade value of $0?

You can trade them. Essentially you paid extra money for those cards so they aren't like a preorder bonus.
