Statistics and Sliders_Oraeon

I have previously done NCAA football sliders. I am going to use this thread to try to create Madden sliders in a similar format. For anyone with familiarity with my sliders I generally try not to use the max difficulty setting because it works by giving stat bonuses to CPU and penalties to player Will be using All pro. My main purpose is to create information on how sliders work and a base set I use. This helps others adjust sliders to get the results they want.

To download for PS3 look for STAT&SLIDERv1

FIRST SET OF SLIDERS:

Difficulty: All Pro
Speed: Normal
Quarter length: 14 minutes
Play clock time: 18 seconds
Injuries: 53 (goal is 1-2 per quarter but only key players & no line so reduced)
Fatigue: 60
Speed Threshold: 45

Offside: 70 (did work once less false starts reduced)
False start: 60 (goal ~2 per side per game)
Holding: 100 (goal ~2 per side per game, doesn't work)
Facemask: 54 (goal 1-2 per side for hands face, unsport etc...)
Defensive PI: Doesn't appear to work yet again EA will leave at 50
Offensive PI: Doesn't appear to work yet again EA will leave at 50
KR/PR: 50 (fairly rare in NFL)
Clipping: 100 (doesn't work)
Intentional grounding: 50 (AI never throws away)
Roughing the passer: 100 (Doesn't work)
Roughing the kicker: 100 (Doesn't work)

***Remember sliders are for the CPU game your skill determines player sliders except for Pass reaction/coverage (which effect CPU)
Player/CPU
QB accuracy: 15/22 (Goal 3-6 errant passes per game per ESPN stats)
Pass blocking: 50/100 (Goal 2-3 sacks per game; effects human rush but not AI)
WR catching: 34/42 (GOAL 3-5 drops per game per side)
Run blocking: 51/63 (GOAL 4-5 YPC for HB, 3-4 TFL/game)
Fumbles: 34/34 (Goal 0-1 fumbles per side per game; at least 1 for whole game)
Pass Reaction Time: 20 (lower = more deflections Goal 4-6)/50(reduce warping)
Interceptions: 5/40 (Goal 1-2 INT per side per game)
Pass coverage: 5 (AI receivers more open = less sacks)/50 (harder for human)
Tackling: 21/25 (goal 3-5 missed per game against HBs)
FG Power: 45/45
FG accuracy: 10/45
Punt Power: 44/42
Punt Accuracy: 10/40
Kickoff Power: 52/54

Autosub: Use armor and swords settings

PASS RUSH AND PASS BLOCK TESTING

Surprising results: I ran same offensive play with 5 blockers against 4, 5, 6 man defensive pressure while I controlled QB with no movement and measured time until touched (not tackled) with stopwatch.

903.393.4520%903.824.120%

6 man rush always unblocked 2.3-2.4 seconds to contact

Findings: Player blocking slider seemed to have very little effect on anything but CPU defenders being knocked down (didn't record numbers but was noticeably different). I was very surprised by this as in past years there was a huge difference. I am not sure this slider is working at all. Of note I didn't test during play action...maybe it helps there.

I also tried to test CPU pass blocking to see if it could adjust CPU sacks. There is no good statistical data to provide. I ran 4 man and 5 man rush and 6 man rush against 5 man offensive blockers with and without playaction enough plays to equate to the passes in a typical NFL game (see NFL stat charts). There were no sacks when set above 60 but I couldn't tell a difference between 10-50 with all groups getting between 2-3 sacks per game. The main reason was fairly obvious though. In my 6man blitz player test time to hit the QB is 2.3-2.4 sec. The CPU quarterback throws the short route at around 2.4 seconds into the play. This means even against a 6 man front there will never be a sack unless the receiver gets jammed/covered. It appears sacks are more related to coverage than sliders though perhaps settings of 50 or less due increase the odds (though Player testing didn't support this).

Recommendation: No clue what to recommend if too few sacks try lowering CPU Pass block to <50 but suspect pass coverage adjustments are more effective. Of note make sure you don't run a lot of 4 man fronts sine they are highly unlikely to get sacks (no CPU pressure in time).

EUREKA:
Results: I figured out how EA porked pass block. I ran human control against the CPU with adjustment to CPU pass block slider. It has a significant effect on the outcome of the square or x button push to beat the OL when playing as a human. Unfortunately by linking the slider to that they porked its use to control sacks since it doesn't appear to effect AI vs AI OL interactions.

RUN BLOCKING/TACKLING/FUMBLING TESTING

TACKLING: I ran 25 plays (NFL usually about 23-24) with each slider set to calculate broken tackles (BTK) per game with NFL 3-5 per game (football outsiders) I shot for 5 per game as target.

Slider BTK
0 13
20 11
25 9
30 6
31 7
32 5
33 4
34 4
35 6
40 4

I feel 30-32 is a good place to start since I only ran one play shooting for 5-6 is good target. I'll start at 31 even though it had 7 I think that is a fluke and it is in the middle.

For RUN BLOCKING: I ran 24 plays with 4 and 5 man rush. YPC goal for starter is 4-5YPC, TFL for NFL was 3-4, I wanted no more than 1TD

SLIDERYPCTFLTD
03.881
204.851
405.151
505.251
543.860
554.841
565.541
607.532
809.322

Conclusion: 55-59 seems best to minimize TFL, 60 had too many touchdowns. For now will use 56 which I tested.

FUMBLE TESTING: Will have to wait to in game at 0 had 3 fumbles, at 20 had 1 fumble, at 30 and above no fumbles. I suspect fatigue has something to do with this. I was trying to get slightly less than one fumble a game. Will set to 30 for Human and CPU for now.

Results: Interestingly there are no drops in zone since there are no big hits. I could tell a difference in how tightly the zones were played subjectively. This was supported by the increased number of deep passes and the lower number of sacks as this slider approached 0. It is also interesting how many sacks occur from zone coverage compared to man with the same pass rush of front 4 (coverage sacks). Reducing pass coverage slider is key to reducing sacks in this game and opening up the deep game against the zone. I will likely start with this at 10 and increase if more sacks are needed. I will try to control Comp% with WR drops (not realistic) and QB ACC sliders. I will confirm what is happening with my player slider test later this week.

Results: There was a subjective difference in deep pass coverage with Safety making a play on the ball aggressively when set to 0 or 10 but not at 90 or 100. In fact at 90 or 100 the pass was either overthrown, caught, or barely deflected. I played with the Interception slider after this test and it has no impact on play on the ball, it does effect how often the Safety drops the ball.

REACTION TIME EFFECTS ON PLAYACTION, DRAWS ETC...
Results: Not much to publish there was no impact on response to these play in practice mode. However, you don't have the down situation. In PS3 NCAA this slider did effect this but for now would say it effects reaction of zone players when the ball is in the air.

Results: This was extremely illuminating. While focusing on the defender with routes you can see that lowering pass coverage increases the number of blown coverages. This is visually represented by defensive players getting turned around or facing the wrong way and giving the receiver a big gap. It is likely a quirk of the play I called or the computer AI that I didn't see a difference for CPU quarterbacks as it is really obvious when watching it yourself. Post, out and Slant result in players getting turned around. Unfortunately for those who want more deep plays the verticals were not effected since the AI didn't have to adjust to cuts (which is what this slider manages). Reaction was less impressive for blown coverages but still very obvious in the routes I bolded. Reaction doesn't effect blowing the response to the cut (which is why its results are more muted), but rather how quickly the defender accelerates afterward. This increases interceptions and recovery.

Summary: By decreasing pass coverage you make receivers get open on short routes more often due to defenders stumbling. The Pass reaction slider can be used to reduce or increase interceptions and deflections and limit yards after the catch.
--Recommendation: Decrease pass coverage significantly to reduce sacks, reduce pass reaction to decrease interceptions and deflections for now, if with changes too few interceptions/deflections will increase, also if too many YAC increase slider. Neither one helps vertical routes (likely threshold settings). To reduce QB % consider adjusting QB slider (not tested yet) or decrease WR catch (ugh makes bad stats for WR).

Results: I don't think 100 really gave more completions there was no difference in separation. However there is obvious separation with TE vs LB. However, this will likely tend to aggravate the CPU dink and dunk passing since it ensures short routes are open. Personally I will leave this alone as it may jack up some of the interactions of players. I may use a stopwatch and try to get real NFL LB vs HB speeds later.

With pass coverage and Pass reaction set to 50 and 50 I got the above. There is no meaningful difference in pass selection but there was a significant difference in completion %. Saw no difference in arm strength which is good. Next I will test putting all sliders together to create more realistic AI gameplay on offense.

A. QB ACC 10, WR DRP 43, INT 27, Pass react 90, Pass cover 10: Need 3-4 more deflections 1 more interception 2 more drops
B. QB ACC 10, WR DRP 40, INT 35, Pass react 70, Pass cover 10, INT better, no imrpovement in Defl Drops still to low
C. QB ACC 10, WR DRP 35, INT 35, Pass react 60, Pass cover 10; too many drops right deflection, not enough INT
D. QB ACC 12, WR DRP 38, INT 40, Pass react 60, Pass cover 10, Incomp better but too few drops

Results: Getting very good practice results for Defl, INT, Drops, Incomplete. More importantly it shows that the slider concept works. Will now begin using in game to evaluate further.

Glad to see you on Madden. You've done great work in the past with NCAA. Can't wait for your findings. Just a heads up, I've been using tackle at 0 for both sides and like the results.
