RECAP TO JUST BEFORE ROYAL RUMBLE

"WWE World Heavyweight Championship"
Prior to the cash-in attempt, a match was set-up for the Royal Rumble that would see Roman Reigns take on Bray Wyatt. In an attempt to guarantee he would not make it to the match healthy, or not make it to the match as the champion, Triple H had put him in a series of matches against Luke Harper, Erick Rowan and Rybaxel. The Harper match was the first leading up to the Royal Rumble PPV match; almost seeing Reigns lose the title to Rusev with a cash-in but thanks to Jack Swagger the cash-in was thwarted. After the failed cash-in, Triple H would put Reigns in a match on the following Raw that would see him take on Erik Rowan in a steel cage match. Reigns would come out on top but after the match, Luke Harper and Rybaxel made their way to the ring and with Reigns locked in, beat him down to end Raw.

The Raw prior to the Royal Rumble saw Roman Reigns put in a match against Randy Orton but after weeks of getting jumped, Orton told Triple H he wanted everyone banned from ringside so that he could take Reigns out by himself. Triple H put the match in place and unfortunately for Orton, it would be his last for a while. Reigns would snap as Orton was coming down the ramp, running out and beating him down from behind. After putting Orton through hell, throwing him into the ring steps, spearing him through the padded area near the ring bell, Reigns would clear off the announcers table and climb up onto the barricade. He would pull Orton up as well and threw him up onto his shoulders and hit a huge Samoan Drop through the announcer table. Raw would go off the air with Orton being strapped to a stretcher.


"The Face(s) of the WWE"
After their brutal match at Hell in a Cell that saw both stars a bloody mess, John Cena and Brock Lesnar, now a full-time wrestler, couldn't let it end there. For months leading up to the match, Cena and Lesnar continued their never ending war to the point that the Board of Director's recommended to Triple H that they should send both of them home for a few weeks before they actually kill each other. Triple H considered their recommendation and decided that it would be best for business to schedule the battle to end the war between the two at Survivor Series. A no disqualification, falls count anywhere match that would end in a no contest as Lesnar would F5 Cena off the stage, throwing his own body off to put Cena down as hard as possible. Both stars would be carted off and would miss the next pay-per-view, TLC. John Cena would return during the first Raw of 2015 and to the surprise of Cena in the middle of one of his promos, Lesnar's music would hit and he would also make his return. Before Lesnar could get to the ring, Triple H's music hits and he makes his way out onto the stage. He declares that at the Royal Rumble, since neither has settled the score, we will see John Cena take on Brock Lesnar once again... because that's what's best for business.


"Daniel Bryan"
Bryan has no wrestled since Summerslam due to his neck injury. There is currently no definite time frame for his return.


"Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose"
Ever since the split of the Shield, the most dominant team of their time, Dean Ambrose has done everything possible to ruin Seth Rollins' career. Rollins turned his back on Ambrose and Roman Reigns in order to align himself with the Authority but it has yet to pay off in his favor and that is in thanks part to Ambrose. Ambrose has challenged Rollins but the the Authority has continuously bailed him out but either sending Rollins home or banning Ambrose from the building.

However, Ambrose challenged Rollins to a match for Wrestlemania and if he doesn't enter the Rumble or doesn't win the Rumble, he will be forced to face multiple challenges as per Triple H and if he passes those challenges, he will get to choose what type of match he'd like to face Rollins in at Wrestlemania.


"The United States Championship"
Sheamus and Antonio Cesaro battled at Summerslam for the United States Championship that saw Sheamus retain. However, Cesaro would earn another shot at the title at Night of Champions and would finally take the title off of Sheamus. From that point forward, Cesaro has successfully defended the title at every pay-per-view since. For the Royal Rumble, however, he entered his name into the 40-man Rumble Match in hopes of earning a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Champion at Wrestlemania. Sheamus would do the same.


"Intercontinental Championship"
After winning the Intercontinental Championship, Wade Barrett dropped bad news week in and week out on his opponents. The Barrett of Bad News had tough battles against the likes of Antonio Cesaro and NXT up-and-comer Sami Zayn but was able to retain the title for an impressive streak of 5 months. Will it be his time to challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship or will he be stuck in the mid-card?


"The Tag-Team Division"
Stardust and Goldust would continue their domination of the tag-team division after winning the titles off of the toughest team in the division, the Wyatt Family. Ever since the two got together, Stardust and Goldust have gone undefeated as a tag-team and hope to continue their dominance throughout the 2015 year as well.


"The Showoff and the Movie Star"
Dolph Ziggler has made it his sole purpose in the WWE to ruin the face of the Miz. Through out the months leading up to the Royal Rumble, Ziggler has come within inches of getting to his face but the Miz has had luck on his side. Stephanie McMahon decided that while they should both also be in the Rumble, they will face off against each other in singles competition at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.


"Money in the Bank Cash-In"
On the December 29th Edition of Monday Night Raw, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns faced off against Luke Harper in a No-DQ match. The match lasted a half an hour and saw Luke Harper come out on top after interference from Erick Rowan. Rowan and Harper would put Reigns through hell, finishing him off with Rowan hitting a splash from the top rope through a table.

As the Wyatt Family began walking up the ramp, Alexander Rusev's music hits and he comes running out with his Money in the Bank briefcase. He hands it to Mike Chioda and Lana begins yelling at him to ring the bell. Reigns began pulling himself up and told Chioda he was fine, so he yelled for the bell to be rung. After hitting a splash to Reigns in the corner, Rusev begins to pull him into the Accolade.

Just as he gets the second arm pulled up Jack Swagger's music hits and he comes running down the ring with Zeb Colter walking out behind him, yelling to get him. Lana jumps into the way but Rusev has already broken the Accolade and is yelling at Swagger in Bulgarian. Jack Swagger begins to back off because he doesn't want to hurt Lana. As Swagger backs up the ramp, Rusev turns around to get back on Reigns but Reigns nails him with a huge spear! Lana began yelling in Russian as Reigns throws an arm over Rusev and picks up the victory, voiding the Money in the Bank Contract and turning Rusev into only the second superstar to ever lose on his cash-in.


"The Battle of Patriotism"
Jack Swagger and Alexander Rusev continued their rivalry as their mouth pieces, Zeb Colter and Lana continued dropping their best promos ever. After Swagger cost Rusev his WWE World Heavyweight Championship shot, The Authority would set up a submission match to attempt to put an end to the rivalry once and for all.


"Diva of the Year"
Paige has continued her dominance of the Diva's Division in the absence of AJ Lee and has ran through all comers of her title. At the Royal Rumble, she will take on a newly over-confident Alicia Fox. Could this be the end of Paige's reign or will she continue to look to break AJ Lee's record setting reign before Lee returns?


"The New Nation"
After months of finding themselves opening the show, or not being on the show at all, Xavier Woods brought together Big E Langston, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth in order to stand up against the Authority and prove that they are not a bunch of scrubs that are used as fillers. They've yet to go all-out against the Authority but the group have been seen planning but it is not known what they plan on doing.


"Surprises and Call-Ups"
Since Summerslam, the WWE has had a surprise return and a few call-ups from NXT. Former champion John Morrison made his return to the squared circle and immediately made his presence felt in the mid-card. Sami Zayn was called up from NXT and showed why he had multiple matches that were considered "Match of the Year" by the WWE Universe. Mojo Rawley, CJ Parker and Scott Dawson have also made appearances on the main show but have not had any success.

In a surprise move by Mr. McMahon himself, former NXT stand-out CJ Parker was given a shot at Wade Barrett's Intercontinental Championship to open the Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View.



Unfortunately for CJ Parker, he left with much still to be desired. Barrett took it to him earlier and fast, finishing Parker off within two minutes with a huge Bull Hammer to retain his Championship.

After the match, Wade Barrett grabbed a microphone.

"I'm afraid I've got some BAD NEUEHS.. to very superstar in the back. This Intercontinental Championship is mine and I'm going for the World Heavyweight Championship next! There is not a single person in that locker room that stands a chance against the Bull Hammer. Whether you're poor little CJ Parker or John Cena. DON'T get in my way."

The following match led to Dolph Ziggler finally getting his hands on the Miz. For months now, Ziggler has attempted to do major damage to the Miz's "money maker" since his return from Hollywood. Unfortunately for Ziggler, the Miz has always had lady luck, or cowardliness, on his side.

The Miz started the match acting as if he was going to walk out but as soon as Ziggler ran towards him, Miz turned and took control quickly. For the better part of the first half of the match, the Miz had the upper-hand thanks to his underhanded tricks. Ziggler would eventually get the upper-hand and take it to the Miz on the outside. He didn't hide the fact that he was willing to take the disqualification loss if it meant getting to the Miz's face and multiple times throughout the match, Ziggler took a couple of swings with a chair but missed every time, hurting himself in the process after hitting the ring post. The Miz took advantage by hitting a Skull Crushing Finale on the outside and rolling back into the ring, allowing himself to pick up the win by count out.

Ziggler was noticeably frustrated after realizing what had happened, he picked up the chair and went after the Miz again. He chased him up the ramp before both disappeared through the curtain.



Paige would be up next to defend her Diva's Championship against Alicia Fox. Paige's domination of the Diva's Division in AJ Lee's absence would continue as she forced Fox to tap out in the middle ring to the Scorpion Crosslock.

As the two made their way to the back, a promo for the John Cena / Brock Lesnar match came on.

"Cena thinks he stands a chance tonight against me. What he doesn't realize is that I'm not here for the win, I don't care if I lose. I'm here to give him the biggest *** whooping that he's ever received. If he thinks what happened whenever I returned over a year ago was bad, he has no idea what in store for him tonight. He's going to lose so much blood tonight that the only way he's making it out of the arena is in a body bag."

"I've worked my entire career to be where I am today and no one, including the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar, is going to take this away from me. I'm not the same man he faced when he first returned to the ring. I'm better today than I've ever been and he's going to get 120% of it."

As Brock Lesnar and John Cena made their way to the ring, the tension was noticeably high. The two stared each other down the entire time like two lions getting ready to battle. Paul Heyman was yelling at Lesnar. "Unleash the beast, Brock! DO NOT LET HIM WALK OUT OF HERE!" The bell rung and Lesnar immediately pounced.

The two broke out into a straight fist fight that saw Cena get busted open almost immediately. The fight would spill to the outside as the two continued to brawl. Lesnar would whip Cena toward the steel steps but he caught himself. Lesnar would sprint at him and attempt to spear him, but Cena moved out of the way and threw Lesnar head first into the ring post, busting him open as well. Cena picked Lesnar up and walked him to the announcers table where he began to clear it off. As he turned around from clearing it off, Lesnar speared him over top of the table and the two continued to brawl as King, Cole and JBL ran away. Cena seemingly got the upper-hand and had Lesnar up for an Attitude Adjustment but Lesnar slid off and quickly picked him up and hit an F5 through the announcer table. The ref checked on both of them as they both were slowly trying to get back up. Lesnar grabbed Cena and threw him back into the ring and went for the cover but he would kick out at two and a half.

Lesnar pulled Cena up and threw him on his shoulders and went for another F5 but it was reversed. Cena turned it quickly into an Attitude Adjustment but was unable to capitalize immediately. When he finally threw an arm over Lesnar, he kicked out at two. Cena would climb to the top rope, attempt a shoulder block on Lesnar but Lesnar would catch him and hit an F5. Once again, Cena would kick out at two and a half and Heyman was shown with a look of disbelief on his face. "AGAIN! BROCK, AGAIN!" Lesnar attempted one more but Cena reversed it and hit another Attitude Adjustment. He would finally pick up the three count.

Cena sat in the corner for a minute, blood running down his head, exhausted. He stood up, climbed up the turnbuckle and celebrated his victory. Unfortunately for him, Lesnar was not finished yet. Heyman had thrown a chair into the ring and Lesnar hit Cena in the back with it. For the next minute, Lesnar destroyed the chair over Cena's back before leaving him motionless in the middle of the ring. The screen would cut to a WWE Network Commercial as doctors attended to Cena.

After weeks of mind games from Bray Wyatt and insurmountable odds from the Authority, Roman Reigns finally goes to battle against the leader of the Wyatt Family. Unfortunately for the two, they were going up after the war that was John Cena taking on Brock Lesnar.



In a match that went back and forth, we seen multiple run ins to attempt to cost Reigns the World Heavyweight Championship. Reigns got off to a fast start, pinning Wyatt and the corner and using his brute strength to keep him immobilized. Reigns set up for an early spear but Luke Harper jumped up onto the apron, taking Reigns concentration off Wyatt. He would spear Harper through the middle rope and as he turned around, Wyatt hit him with a huge running cross body. Harper finally got back up and jumped onto the apron but the ref got to him and told him to get down. This gave Erik Rowan enough time to roll into the ring and give Reigns a huge chokeslam. Harper jumped down and Wyatt tried to pick up the win but Reigns kicked out at the last second. Wyatt picked Reigns up and set him up for the Sister Abigail. Reigns would reverse it and attempt a Superman Punch but Wyatt stepped out of the way but as soon as he turned around, Reigns hit a huge spear and picked up the win, retaining the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

After the match, the camera would cut to the Authority's Office and a disappointed Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were standing there, shaking their heads.

"You know Steph, at least the fans at home only had to pay $9.99 on the WWE Network to watch Reigns retain. Because if I had to pay anything more than $9.99 to watch him sneak out of that one, I would call my cable provider and ask them to refund me all of my money except $9.99."

"$9.99?"

Triple H turned and stared into the camera. "$9.99."

Mr. McMahon had a bunch of surprises tonight as he announced via satellite that the Royal Rumble Match was going to be extended to 40 superstars again.

Michael Cole, JBL and the King seem very excited about the match.

"You know Magal, tonight is a night where anything came happen and Mr. McMahon has shown that by increasing the match to 40 superstars!"

"Well John, anything can happen on any given night.."

"Shut up Magal!"

- Mason Ryan has started looking like the beast that he was expected to be when he forst arrived on WWE programming; capturing the NXT Championship a few weeks ago.

- Jason Jordan & Aiden English have been on a hot streak & Adrian Neville has been a fan favorite, putting on great matches.

- NXT has created a new championship belt (WWE Hybrid Championship) that can be claimed by WWE main roster talent as well as NXT talent with Justin Gabriel being the first ever WWE Hybrid champion. He then lost the title to Kalisto who then lost it to Jason Jordan who has since lost it to Sylvester Lefort.

- The Ascension has held the NXT Tag Team titles since September of 2013 & Charlotte has held the NXT Women's title since May of 2014.

- TNA's Bully Ray is very unhappy with the company & has been rumored to be in negotiations to return to the WWE.

- NXT's Ascension looks to be the next call up to the main roster.

- WWE's John Cena to undergo ankle surgery after match with Brock Lesnar.
