How do you beat overly aggressive opponent

Hey guys, just need some tips if possible. I am a sim player, and not a button masher or a power shot junkie. But it seems a lot of the players I fight just throw power shots until they wobble you, and even when i step back or side step, I seem to get clipped even while holding the block button.

Is there a way to fight Machida style in this game and counteract this, or does the game reward this kind of fighting style of just throwing power shots?

Unfortunately these losers you describe are still rewarded far too highly imo even post patch. I fight guys like what u describe all the time too. I pick my shots make them miss. Yet after 3 rounds their permanent stamina is only slightly less than mine. Certainly not enough to deter them......

Use more movement and less blocking. Sometimes your gonna eat some shots but just keep circling and work in leg kicks and jabs. Also don't be afraid to use the clinch to slow the pace of the fight down.

If you could record you fighting a spammer I might be able to help more too.

Make them miss. Whiffed strikes hurt stamina, then counter to the body. Back away a second, let go of block and recoup some stamina. Hurt them again to the body. And if you have more than 1/2 stamina and the are out. Put on the pressure.

Learn patterns and parry if you can. Use spacing and attack when their stamina is down.

But actually the agression is a strong strategy in close distance, you need to work to make some space for you to escape or parry.

I will Parry and go for a body shot which causes a wobbles if landed, ill also make sure to hit a lot of leg kicks, so if the fight does goes to a decision I will usually win due to cumulative strikes. The patch did help this game a lot, the next implementation to deter these type of players is making it so you cannot knock someone out when your fighter is out of stamina, or prevent a player from blocking because they are out of stamina. I run into a lot of situations where I am playing someone who spams hooks left and right, I will eventually run out of stamina blocking which causes my fighter to drop my block, and they are still able to do significant damage despite their fighter being out of stamina as well. The other player knows this is how the game works and that is why they expose this cheese.

Re: How do you beat overly aggressive opponent

I've seen some very good people fight very aggressively and it's very different trying to stop that than fighting someone that's less aggressive. I've only had limited success, but my basic strategy is to attempt to take the fight to the ground if possible, where I can control the pace much better.

If that isn't working my initial reaction was to go the opposite direction of them and turtle, wait for them to gas a bit, then carefully pick my spots to attack. This doesn't really work. Generally I wasn't able to deal enough damage in my spots to counteract the damage they had done. The answer seems to be to take a middle of the road approach where you let them run their stamina down a bit with bad strikes (if they're striking well and in volume you're done anyway), parry often and counter, mixing body and head counters liberally to keep them from parrying your parry. Then once you attack a bit increase the distance until you've got your stamina back and they've missed a couple more strikes. It's still tough but it's the best way I've figured out so far.

Re: How do you beat overly aggressive opponent

Thanks guys for all the replies, I appreciate it! I have started incorporating more kicks also, I have been watching more UFC fights, and have noticed they use a lot more kicks than I was.

I am noticing a lot of these guys that keep coming forward with hooks and power shots leave themselves wide open for kicks to the face, and that has a huge effect over time. You don't see this a lot in UFC fights, because most fighters don't fight this way, so they don't leave themselves exposed like that. But since they are asking for it by not fighting smart, that is what I am doing now.
