Re: List of Classic Seasons & Historic Specialty Rosters

This is a great idea. I think there's a 96 Season preview in the vault but i don't think it's finished. Also, am I an idiot, because I can't figure out how to search for something by name in the vault.

Re: List of Classic Seasons & Historic Specialty Rosters

pagodacrockett,

You are right - The Vault does not allow sorting by file name so what I do is sort by Owner which gets you to the correct file you are looking for. I place the Owners tag in the list as "by xxxxxxx" for that purpose.

There are several Rosters in the works like 96, 83, 75, 64, 90, 89 etc etc that I am watching and waiting for an uploaded Playable version to add to the list.

If you know of any that are finished to the point of being considered playable please post here and I will add to the 1st post of this thread.

Take Care,
Don

Re: List of Classic Seasons & Historic Specialty Rosters

Don, there is an 83', full 90 man being worked on. There's been a couple of preview versions vaulted and it looks amazing. Judging by the ratings and player models, it's the same guy that did the 83' last year under "Twinsvikes". The name on the ones in the 14' vault is "agate" or something like that...
He's going pretty fast, by the looks of it. I don't think he comes to OS though, so we can't ask him anything. Maybe I'll try PSN'ing him a note?

P.S. I was going to do a 1974 but John who did the 1984 set is doing 1975 and he's much better than I am at roster creation, so I'm not sure yet what I'm going to work on. Just F.Y.I.

Re: List of Classic Seasons & Historic Specialty Rosters

htskr21,

Yep, it' Agates22 '83 and he actually put up one just today with a non identifiable file name of SCHHOU .... it appears to have the AL complete. He must have taken down his one from a week ago on 6/4 which had a 1983 name in it but I have it downloaded as well.

Sorry to hear about your '74 plans as that was a really exciting year but anxious to see what you have decided on.

I think when all is said and done we will all have a great variety of these fabulous roster sets to enjoy. I myself am a huge '60s fan and may undertake one of those rosters in the near future. As a 65 year old I have been doing these rosters for many many years dating back to the C64 game in the mid '80s simply titled "Baseball" and that involved totally hex editing of rosters which was a real chore. Spent several extremely dedicated years doing many rosters for EA Sports MVP Baseball game on the PC.

Take Care,
Don

Re: List of Classic Seasons & Historic Specialty Rosters

Did you ever have "Micro League Baseball" for the c64? It was amazing for the time and what you could do with it. We created our whole little league team and went up against some all-time teams. (Got smoked, of course, even though we might have cheated with our ratings.)

Re: List of Classic Seasons & Historic Specialty Rosters

Yes, I had MicroLeague Baseball but I think I got it for the PC as the only C64 baseball game I remember having was that earliest version titled "Baseball".

From the C64 I think I moved to Tony LaRussa Baseball on the PC shortly followed by OldTime baseball also from SSI (Strategic Simulations Inc.) the makers of the Tony LaRussa series.

I bought just about every computer baseball game available during those earlier days of the PC including the text versions mainly just to see how they were made.

I stayed with Oldtime Baseball a few years as the primary one I played then spent a couple years enjoying the APBA Broadcast Blast game with Ernie Harwell announcing before moving to EA Sports MVP Baseball 2004 prior to their 2005 version release which I primarily played for almost 10 years. Just recently moved to MLB The Show.

Prior to the PC games arriving I also had purchased just about every table top baseball games (SOM, APBA, Negamco, Pursue the Pennant, Statis Pro, Clubhouse, All-Star, etc etc.). Then came the computer games like Strat-O-Matic, APBA, Sports Mogul, OOTP, Diamond Mind etc etc. It all started in 1963 when I purchased my first Strat-O-Matic card set which got me hooked on baseball games and have continued my passion for this for over 50 years now.

It's been a very interesting evolution and this MLB The Show certainly has the potential to be the best ever but for my nickel it has a few feature/functions to go before it surpasses EA Sports MVP Baseball 2005 game. In that game you could basically recreate in detail any previous seasons including yearly specific uniforms, stadiums, announcers audio, schedules, logos, portraits, background images, loading screens, music etc etc. MLB The Show can easily get to that point but they aren't there yet.

In my retirement room, I created 6 years ago when I retired, I proudly display most of these games I mentioned above and many others as well. Plus I have a vast array of baseball magazines from the '60s and '70s, many baseball movies & research books, plus all sort of player and stadium figurines I've collected over the years. Kinda looks like a Baseball History Museum Room when you enter it with Pennants hanging, Real Warmup Jackets hung -- relics of all kind !

Take Care,
Don

Re: List of Classic Seasons & Historic Specialty Rosters

I played Strat as a kid and play in a APBA league now. Where do you live? I'd like to see that room!

P.S. My first love was "Hardball" on the c64. I once played a friend for 27 innings until I hit a home run to win it 1-0. He begged me to let him score in the bottom of the inning to keep the game going but it was getting pretty late. 27 inning shut-out.
