I've given this a go myself, it seems you only call situations where there are runners aboard or there's a pop-up or steal attempt in the offing.
You get to call the pitch, position your glove where you want it delivered, then you have a split second to react after the pitch is thrown to position your glove where the crosshair appears.
You'll get points for blocking pitches in the dirt amongst other things, you'll lose points for dropping pitches.
I can't compare to last year as I didn't play catcher in '13 as I found it boring when it was introduced in '12, but it's a big improvement over that to say the least.
