Quick count - less random

Hey guys, what are you thinking about quick count?
Here, I basically only played with it on so far. As I mainly play franchise mode against the CPU, this is perfect.

But after reaching midway through my season I have some considerations.
I think it's way too random. I mean, I get it that it was made to be random, but the game could be a bit more smart.

For example, sometimes I got baserunners at 1st and 2nd, 0 out and my pitcher coming up.
That means I will probably be bunting, but with quick counts on, many times I get the pitcher with 2 strikes already. And then I try and bunt and it's a foul ball, and I'm out.

So the people at SCEA could make the quick counts smarter, to take into consideration the situation you are facing, and then decide what the quick count.

Another thing is to take into account the plate patience from the batters and the control of the pitcher, to give us more accurate counts.
I don't know if they take this into account already, but I'm seeing guys like Pablo Sandoval getting loooots of 3-2 counts. Well that basically never happens, as he swings at everything. Look at where he hit that ball, in yesterday's game:

Another example is that I see guys like Tim Hudson that has exceptional control with lots of 3-ball counts.
They should make it so pitchers like Lincecum get much more 3-ball counts than the Hudsons.

I love the setting, and before people freak out, this is no way a rant, just some thoughts that came up to me after playing with it a bit.

Cheers.

Good points...I can't decide if I like it or hate it. I started out using them and enjoyed that the game is so much shorter. With 2 kids time is limited and getting in games quickly helpps....My biggest problem with it is the sacraficing. As you said, a pitcher coming up with men on base usually will bunt. But with 2 strikes, its pointless. My other suggestion would be to once in a while, have a guy come up with a 0-0 count. There are first pitch swingers out there. All in all this game is fantastic. But I think at least doing something where the pitcher comes up in a sacrifice situation you could hit a button or something where you would start with a 0-0 count but you are only able to sacrifice.....just an idea.

I'd be okay with some kind of option to toggle this on or off during the game. You know how in Madden you get accelerated clock for most of the game but then when it matters later in each half it goes real-time? Well I feel as if we should be able to jump into a more sim mode later in games....especially when strategy would dictate a sac bunt would be best but then leaves you with an 0-2 count to start with.

I am like you guys....I love it.....yet also hate it at times. I guess being able to change it mid game would help in my mind.

I think (could be wrong) that SCEA has said that it is not actually supposed to be random. I think situation/player skill do play a role. To what extent, I'm not sure.

Yeah, I think it's a good concept and since this is its first year, I only hope that the devs will build off of it for the next installments.

I wanna believe that but I honestly have a hard time buying it. There have been many times Ill have my SP up there with a 3-2 count meanwhile Andre Ethier will come up with a 1-2 count, under no circumstance should a SP be able to work counts better then a positional player, it might happen from time to time but its happening far too frequently for my liking so far. If anything Im starting to wonder if the pitchers confidence plays a huge role in it, the moment my SP's confidence started to trend south the generated counts started going more and more in the CPU's favor regardless of who was at the plate (ie. Ryu had a 2-0 count to start to Bumgarner lol) and then the next game Josh Beckett's confidence sky rockets early and hes constantly ahead in the count outside of a few here and there where he was 3-2 on them. I hope in the future that the quick counts is based primarily on that persons plate discipline rating or incorporate each players real life K and BB rate to determine what each players quick count might be then have a sprinkling of that players current hot/cold streaks from your franchise mixed in.

Yeah, I believe it's quite random also.
My brother is not the biggest baseball fan and he always misses putting a reliever to warm up and a position player ends up starting the inning.
I remember once he did it, and it gave me a 0-2 count, against Buster Posey.
He mound visited, put on a reliever, got the out and the next batter he got a 3-2 count, with a true pitcher.

Re: Quick count - less random

There's definitely good and bad to it...bunting scenarios being key. Depending on scenarios in the game I think it would be nice to have an occasional 0-0 count to start an AB, really let the players dictate the outcome.

Also, online it definitely works to the pitchers advantage...seems in a game today against Verlander I came up with a lot of 2 strike counts. Online for me has been pretty decent, however the slight delay when hitting is really magnified (to me)with quick count.
