Re: Die Freibeuter der Liga - FC St. Pauli Career (FIFA 14)

FC ST. PAULI 2-1 AL. PETROLERA

A good crowd was on hand to witness the first preseason action for St. Pauli, in the form of a friendly against Colombian side Alianza Petrolera.

The hosts took the lead on just 7 minutes after Thy's hard work earned him the chance to cross from the right byline, where it was met by target man John Verhoek who connected well, but his thundering header hit the top of the bar. Fortunately, the rebound looped up off the woodwork giving Verhoek a second chance which he didn't waste, thumping his header into an empty net to make it 1-0 to der Braun-Weiß.

The lead was doubled just before the halfway point, when a neat interchange between Rzatkowski and Kringe allowed a cross from which Bartels evaded everyone with his run from the far post to power a header past a helpless Petrolera keeper to give the home side a 2-0 cushion heading into the break.

However the visitors got back into the game on the hour mark when a shot from the edge of the box was parried by Himmleman and collected before being slotted across goal for Carrascal to bundle home, making the score 2-1.

The game then swung back in St. Pauli's favour, with an attacking last 20 minutes brought on by the introductions of Schindler on the right wing and Nöthe up front alongside Thy. What appeared to be a blatant penalty was waved away by the referee in the dying seconds, nevertheless a good performance to begin the preseason campaign.

FC St. PAULI (4-4-2):

Himmlemann

Ziereis
Thorandt
Gonther
Nehrig

Rzatkowski (Schindler 65')
Kringe
Buchtmann (Boll 80')
Bartels

Verhoek (Nöthe 65')
Thy

Relentless™ Man of the Match: F. Kringe

FC ST. PAULI 1-0 GRÊMIO

FC St. Pauli went with a much changed starting lineup for their last preseason game at the Millerntor Stadion against Brazilian side Grêmio.

The game once again began very well for the hosts, as a flowing move in the 13th minute allowed Rzatkowski to cross into the box where Fin Bartels was on hand to notch a second headed goal of the preseason campaign.

The score remained 1-0 until the break, with a stale middle spell in which neither side could create a clear cut chance, the best effort being a header from young St. Pauli striker Gregoritsch which Grêmio 'keeper Marcelo Grohe was grateful to clutch.

In the second period chances were few and far between. St. Pauli had several opportunities to kill the game late, but notably Bartels' and Boll's shots were blocked from promising situations. Grêmio's best chance came in the 85' minute when, after a headed clearance from Halstenberg, Adrian dragged his volley marginally wide through a crowd of brown shirts.

The game finished 1-0, der Braun-Weiß recording a perfect preseason at home in which they beat 2 quality opponents from South America and gave all players a run out.

FC St. PAULI (4-4-2):

Himmlemann

Schachten
Mohr (C)
Ziereis
Halstenberg

Schindler
Trybull (Schindler 68')
Boll
Rzatkowski

Gregoritsch (Verhoek 68')
Bartels

Relentless™ Man of the Match: P. Ziereis

DOUBLE INJURY BLOW FOR ST. PAULI

The Braun-Weiß today learnt of two training injuries that occurred following the final preseason game.

Firstly, Christopher Nöthe will be out for about a week for a bruised rib, but should be ready to play in the season opening game at home to FC Kaiserslautern if necessary.

Also, backup goalkeeper Philipp Heerwagen suffered a pulled hamstring which should see him out of action for a month, meaning Robin Himmelmann will be on the bench for the opening game.

FC ST. PAULI 2-2 FC KAISERSLAUTERN

The Braun-Weiß were left to rue their chances as they surrendered an early two goal lead courtesy of a John Verhoek brace to draw with FC Kaiserslautern to start the season.

MATCH REPORT:

To continue a repeating pattern, the game started so brightly for the hosts when they took the lead in the 10th minute. A perfectly places arial through ball from Schindler set Verhoek away, and the big man's drive accross goal was deflected into his own goal by Kaiserslautern defender Dick. Verhoek was credited with the goal, 1-0 St. Pauli.

Lightning struck twice when in the 13th minute St. Pauli doubled their lead. A Rzatkowski cross from near the left corner flag after a lung busting burst down the flank was met athletically by Verhoek, who headed seamlessly into the top left corner to give the Buccaneers a commanding lead at 2-0.

Through what was a tame period following the goal, Thorandt had the best opportunity as his shot from the edge of the box whizzed past the near right post after the midfielder struck it venomously.

A lack of discipline may be to blame for the visitors reentering a game they had otherwise been absent from, when Alushi was brought down on the edge of the box. The tricky winger then stepped up and smashed the free kick into the bottom left corner of the net with a sweetly struck drive that dipped desparingly past Tschauner in the St. Pauli goal. 2-1 at half time.

After a scrappy beginning to the second half, the hosts suffered a scare on the hour mark when Tschauner rushed out of his net to claim a cross destined to meet the head of powerful striker Idrissou. He couldn't quite make it in time, but thankfully it was headed on to his fist and cleared from danger.

The inevitable sadly occured on 70 minutes when, after building pressure and intensity, FCK drew level through the dangerous Idrissou. An ambitious looking lobbed through ball was helped into the path of the target man by Thorandt, and he calmly knocked it past Tschauner for 2-2.

St. Pauli fans would be forgiven for thinking they had retaken the lead on 80 minutes when a corner was met by Gonther who thundered his header against the top of the near right post and the rebound was claimed by Kaiserslautern 'keeper Sippel.

Full time: FCSP 2-2 FCK

It is a very bittersweet game for us. On the one hand the first half performance is the best I have seen from my players and they worked tirelessly to get into a great position in the game. However, we couldn't hold on and there are issues I need to address. Nevertheless I see it as a point gained against a great side.

FORTUNA DUSSELDORF 0-1 FC ST. PAULI

The early start pays dividends for St. Pauli, defeating promotion contender 1-0 at the Espirit Arena for their first win of the season.

MATCH REPORT:

The game almost continued the theme of a bright start for St. Pauli as on seven minutes a tackle from Kringe allowed Verhoek to pick up possession on the halfway line. The target man then swivveled and played a wonderful 30 yard pass to set Fin Bartels through on goal, but his effort was magnificently palmed away for a corner.

However the calm was to be short lived, as from the resulting corner Dusseldorf failed to clear their lines on many occasions and after a driving run from Buchtmann, the ball was scooped away and fell to Verheok, who guided his effort in off the far left post from near the penalty spot for his third goal of the season. 1-0 Sankt Pauli.

The action was far from dull from that point until the break. Der Braun-Weiß remained bright, constantly breaching the host's 18 yard box and thanks to some good defending and last ditch tackling the deficit only remained a goal. Fortuna enjoyed some pressure late in the first half, with several crosses and through balls that almost broke the St. Pauli line, however it was 1-0 to the visitors at the break.

Dusselfdorf were almost level in the 51st minute, when after some tentative defending allowed a cross which was headed out before being fed to Lambertz. His shot from the right edge of the box to the top right corner was spectacularly tipped for a corner by Tschauner, keeping it 0-1.

After a spell of absolute dominance from the home side, their best chance came in the 67th minute when Benschop receiver the ball on the wing and slung in an inswinging cross first time which was flicked first by Kenia towards the penalty spot, then by Bolly towards the bottom right corner from 10 yards out. Tschauner once again produced a remarkable save to parry it, before a welcome clearance to keep the St. Pauli lead intact.

Late on, a chance in the 90th minute was spurned by Bellinghausen as he volleyed wide from a driven cross by Bolly.

It was a perfect performance from my side. We were disciplined, maintained our focus, and ultimately deserved the victory in my opinion. When we scored I told my players not to sit back because we would invite pressure, and it was a nervy game but I am thrilled with the result and performance.
