Road to the Microtransactions

Anybody else feel like this mode is more grindy & monotonous this year (on par with a lot of free 2 play games that incentivize microtransactions)?

It also feels streamlined/easier/dumbed down etc. I have an 18 year old pitcher dominating AAA to the tune of sub 1 era.

The older mode seemed more dynamic from game to game--in terms of player-performance (it also felt like there were more goals to achieve, ways to earn points, more mini games, etc.).. I feel like I'm grinding games and getting less points to invest--and there are less off the field/inbetween games stuff going on.

Re: Road to the Microtransactions

RTTS blog covered the whole training points/attributes situation and it's not a bad thing IMO, I think it adds longevity to the mode as it's no longer easy to get to 99 on any given attribute which gives me incentive to continue my players career. Still wish money was useful for something. xD

feels streamlined/easier/dumbed down all because Advancement goals are gone is basically what you're saying, which is true to an extent but the Advancement goals were awful to begin with. a good majority of the time the goals made no sense to your position. This year advancement is based on your performance which is what most RTTS players have been wanting for years, myself included.

I do feel for you though, I would hate it if I felt something I enjoyed became less enjoyable for any reason. I will say I think stubs are collected pretty slowly. xD

I don't think it's that much harder to get a stat to level 99, however it's more difficult to get multiple stats to 99 since training points only get added to one attribute at a time.

But yeah, buying stubs seem to be a lot more useful than training points last year. However they gave 30,000, doubt I'll ever buy them.

At first I thought you were going to say something like the game is too hard to earn points and your player can't perform well enough, making you feel like they're forcing you to buy training points to be able to compete. But as it turns out, your guy is actually performing dominantly as an 18 year old, so I don't see the issue.

I also don't know what you mean by "there are less off the field/in between games stuff going on." There's never been off the field stuff lol. The only thing that can happen between games is a) you get traded, b)you get a mini-game training session, c)you get an e-mail from your manager or something. Not a lot going on

Re: Road to the Microtransactions

Also I just want to point out that The Show may allow for microtransactions to speed up the process of becoming all 99's or whatever, but they've never made it the focal point of their game or even close to that level of relevance.

Look at NBA2K... it costs like 5,000 VC for an ARM SLEEVE. You know what your player's starting NBA Salary is? 500 VC. So basically they're saying in order for a player to purchase a sleeve, it would cost him 10 years worth of an NBA rookie salary. Nevermind the fact that NBA players never pay a dime for a single pair of sneakers or any accessory they wear on the court, 2K will make you grind out thousands of VC points for one little measly headband. THAT is taking advantage of the customer with microtransactions. Let me know when SCEA forces you to spend 10,000 training points to purchase batting gloves or a non-generic batting stance.

Yeah, I think this thread title is way off base.

Same issue with My GM mode, which is why they may have lost a lifetime customer. That game was broken from top to bottom in every conceivable way.

I have yet to encounter near the issues with this game.

They removed the goals because some of them were awful (like hit 2 HRs this series, etc) and unrealistic. Instead you earn training points based on things like at bats, how you field, how you pitched for that inning.

The off field stuff is usually just trainings. I'm not sure what's there for a pitcher, but in my RTTS I've done batting, fielding and stealing in two months. I don't believe there's any other off the the field activities.

I haven't spent one cent on stubs and I'm not having a hard time leveling up my RTTS guy at all.

Someone made the 2K comparison already - that's a game made for microtransactions. The microtransactions in this game are here for anyone who doesn't feel like playing out full seasons or wants to get that 99 quickly.
