Quick Counts - What Happens When You Replace a Player?

I have the game, and it's sorta weird how they handle it now.

For instance, the game goes from the top of the 8th to the bottom. You're pitching. Game opens with you on the mound, and it's a 1-1 count. But it's the bottom of the 8th, and you want to throw in a new pitcher. So... what happens?

In actuality, the game sorta hand-waves the "generated count" away (so far as I can tell) when you put in a new pitcher. So for instance, Allen Craig had a 1-1 count when I first arrived at the bottom of the 8th. When I put in a new pitcher, he got a whole new count.

I looked at the Game Log and it appears that nothing is official until you actually take a swing. So the game "magics" away any pre-generated anything (again, so far as I can tell).

It's not a big deal, really, but it's sorta weird. It's like those pitches never happened. I need to see what happens when you put out a new batter to make sure those 3 or 4 pitches actually get erased from the "imaginary" count.

Sorry this is sorta hard to explain.

So there was a 1-1 count and you changed pitchers and the count reset to whatever. Makes perfect sense to me. The game doesn't count them until you actually throw a pitch. So it's like that batter didn't face that pitcher at all. That's the way it should work because if you didn't have quick counts on then you would have replaced the pitcher anyways and there would have never been a quick count to replace.

If you throw a pitch and then change horses midstream, does it reset?
If no, then everything's cool.

ya exactly. You would never change pitchers mid at-bat and theres no possible 0-0 count on quick counts so it would just revert back to between batters. I am actually glad u said this cuz this is exactly what I was hoping would happen! So def don't worry bout it cuz that is how it SHOULD be

Its the only reasonable solution to this, unless you can schedule a pitcher to come in and then it just transitions directly to that pitcher with only his QC being generated and not the pitcher's who got taken out.

Its something I hope they can solve as it pertains to steals, hit-and-runs and sac bunts. It would be awesome if you had the option to reset the count to 0-0 before a pitch is thrown so that you could execute these strategies.

Totally. It's just sorta weird, you know? Like, for a game that's all about realism and immersion to use a "magic" hand-waving solution, it's an interesting dilemma.

I don't see it as a dilemma.....
Quick counts in and of itself asks you to suspend disbelief when playing.
So thinking of each player as getting his own QC(new pitcher or new batter) isn't really a stretch IMO.
