The same player twice on an active roster

This question may sound silly, but I need to ask it.
I'm quite new to Madden Ultimate Team and only started to build a team recently.
I was fortunate to acquire two 95 Brian Grimes cards already. When I choose the option within the game to select the best lineup, only of those cards is put in my active lineup and the other goes to reserves.
My other starting CB has an overall rating of 80.

Is there some sort of hidden penalty for using two copies of the same guy?

Nope there is no penalty you can use as many of the same players at that position as u want
