It really depends on u and wat type of player u playing against. If u playing against somebody that just wanna run up and down the court..****nning plays would be benefical to u because itll slow down the game.

My thoughts exactly. I try to run plays 80% of the time but sometimes just freestyle it depending on what the opponent is doing. No reason to stop my PG right pass the half-court line to set up a play if the defender is coming out too far on D and reaching. Automatic blow by and looking to score or dish for a score.

I say not usually unless they show discipline defense. Most users just come and reach, reach, reach, reach, and play the passing lanes. There is no need to run a play. You don't run plays just for the heck of it. You run plays to get open lanes, open looks, and to get the defense to scramble. If the defense is already scrambling around and playing crazy then all you need is a simple isolation or pick and roll.

Take what the defense gives you. No coach would run a play if they defense just ran crazy at every player and try to go for a steal.

I rarely run actual plays because it feels to me like the "spot" recognition doesn't always work right. Always seems like I'm having to shift slightly right or left while on the "go here for next part of play" circle. I freelance my own plays generally by using directed off ball movement and moving the ball back and forth to get their defenders to move/open up.

Yeah run plays . Switch it up between quick and set plays. You really don't have to follow the steps in order to a tee if you learn some of the plays either.

I skip and change things up a lot but the play continues. People don't even realize when I'm running plays or free styling lol .

Re: should you run plays when playing against someone online?

My offensive strategy depends entirely how I'm being played.

If the other team is constantly reaching and trying to take charges in the back court, the best thing to do is blow by and kick out to the open shooters after the help comes.

If they play a zone, draw the defense in and kick out to open shooters (zone defenses lose shooters that are 2+ passes away very easily). Even the 3-2 has a ton of holes on the perimeter.

The only time you really need plays to get shots off is if your opponent plays you straight up (which, sadly, is rare in 2k). Pick and roll offense works perfectly against players who don't play on the ball (Computer can't go around the screen without the animation). If they play on ball defense without reaching or taking charges in the back court, that is when you can feel free to open up your entire playbook.

Low post up plays are very useful because it is easy to score down low and nobody online sends the double team (it is actually very effective doubling a post player with the other big because the guards rotate over nicely). Aside from that, use pick and rolls and off ball screens.

No. It's too easy to steal from the ball handler to run any sort of offense online against randoms. Plays break instantly and the game lags too much. Used to run plays all the time in previous games but here it's useless. It's easier to get open by a simple sidestep than with a play, and just rushing to the rim without any strategy will net you insane FG%
