Seeking Offline Dynasty and Draft Suggestions/Advice

I got NBA 2K14 a few weeks ago. It's not my first experience with the NBA2K franchise, but I do feel like I'm not getting as much out of the game as I think I should. I love the way the game looks, generally really enjoy the gameplay, etc., so I'm looking for advice/suggestions on how you play offline dynasties, how you draft, etc.

In terms of game play -- I feel like there are almost too many advanced controls, so I don't remember them all, and end up not taking advantage of them in-game.

I feel like I can't drive past the defender, or really just have a lot of the same plays over and over, rather than feel like I'm really in control, I'm just doing what works.

How many games will you play in a given season? Do you sim the rest?

How do you handle the drafting? Do you do a lot of scouting? Do you sign many free agents? What are you looking for?

That's probably way to broad a question, so feel free to tackle whatever you'd like.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I handle drafting, but not scouting. I also only sign who I REALLY need in free agency and never anyone who would be a game changer by themselves.

I play every game in a season because I feel like I'm wasting my time otherwise.

For the controls and plays. I find if you don't rush the play and try to circulate the ball a bit, you'll get something open on what you want. I typically get a little bit of everything. If the paint isn't open, start shooting 3s, they'll come up to the line and open it for your big guys. Don't force anything because D is unreal this year, they'll block everything

I play every game, don't scout, but control the draft. I edit the draft class prior to starting so it's pretty easy to draft haha. I'm usually rebuilding a team so don't sign a lot of free agents unless it's a really good fit. Try to keep trades realistic. Even though I edit the draft class, I normally trade my 1st round picks as they have solid value and I'd rather have a current, young NBA player than a draft pick.

It can be hard to drive past a defender, even with the quickest of first steps, you're much better off working the ball around and trying to get open shots. Get some drives off screens though.

There are a lot of advanced controls, and it makes the game a challenge to just pick up and play, but once you learn the controls and get good at them, the game becomes a lot of fun.

Re: Seeking Offline Dynasty and Draft Suggestions/Advice

i do 29 game seasons. usually play around 20-22 of the games and sim the rest just to save a little time and i feel like adding in some sim games gives some diversity to your players stats/team record. playoffs i do 3-3-5-7 for the series lengths.

i always scout and try to hire the best scouts. how i build my team depends on the roster and contract situation of the team. if i have a lot of money getting freed up, ill make a decent splash in free agency while also trying to get a good prospect in the draft. i dont like to build super teams. ill get cheaper complementary players to put next to my better players. for example, i had harden and paired him with chalmers in the backcourt. harden can handle and score so i didnt need a flashy pg next to him. i wanted chalmers defense and 3 pt shooting to complement harden.

and you will hardly ever blow by a defender on this game. you have to get half a step on your man and launch towards the basket with a layup animation. the defender will still be draped on you kinda, but if you have someone like harden he will make it most of the time or get fouled.
