Selecting a specific player during game play

I searched the forums but couldn't find any discussion about this for NHL '14, but is there a way to pick a specific player defensively? I know they have this for NBA Live (well they did the last time I played), but it's annoying having to cycle through players trying to pick someone defensively and the first couple picks always seem to be the person you don't want to pick (or furthest from the puck).

One of the few reasons why i hate controlling a whole team. I can never select the player I want to control while playing D.

Its annoying but no, you just have to time it when you switch players so that you get the guy closest to the puck carrier.

I wish you could, would make back checking easier and D. I hate selecting a guy late and the attacker just goes around him because it either selected late, selected the wrong guy, or the AI had the guy going the wrong direction...

If you hold down the button to switch player you will be the defender/player closest to your own goal.

Wow this actually works. Thanks. Even though I play EASHL a lot more than HUT, its still useful to know.

Re: Selecting a specific player during game play

Hi, it seems I can't start a new thread.

My question is: is it possible to play online against some other online player so that I control our team's players and my friend controls only a goalie (permanent control). Normally both of us are players not goalie.

I know you can switch to goalie control by clicking L1 + X but it switches back to palyer control when player touches a puck.
