What does this option actual do. I played online and my opponent
Put there DA all the way up. I did notice that help rotation on shooting looked
Extremely better. Am I just seeing things or does this actually do anything ?

i think it just tries to glide your controlled guy in-front of his man more (from my experience it makes playing defense worse or for some people effortless - cheesers!-)

With lag its sometimes impossible to do on ball defense.

With lag is easier as the opponent goes slower in think anyways

So what exactly does this do, then? And do I want "auto-contest" or "manual" or the other setting? Mostly I play offline.

auto contest just makes your guy contest any shot where you fall into the option "with it set to intense it contests every shot while you hold in the intense D button"

i play with it off because some shots are not worth contesting and 2k's auto contest gives you some weird angles/animations/fouls.

DA prettymuch just tries to keep your defender infront of his guy for you.. you will find yourself battling it to get to the spot you want sometimes and it makes defense take 0 skill
