Is it just me or was hitting in 2K13 hard?

For some reason I have been unable to hit in the latest version of 2K. In MLB 2K 10 I was able to hit with ease and I had very little trouble, in this game I have extreme difficulty playing on the same difficulty level I did into 2K10. Is it just me or is it hard to hit?

It's hard for me to hit in this game in general, because I prefer using the left analog stick for zone hitting and not for influencing direction. To not use it is kind of strange. It's like I used to use it to "watch the pitch all the way in" so I know exactly how I want to hit it. It's hard to explain, but that's what always made it difficult for me.

You might want to work with your sliders, though.

I just keep popping out all over the field.

I'd look through some of the slidersets. But you might want to bump up power quite a bit, and if you bump up the contact it will provide a larger window for hitting the ball more solid.

I understand why some love zone hitting, but it always felt unintuitive to me. When hitting, the LS represents your shoulders. So with an inside pitch, you need to open your shoulders, outside keep them in.

I rarely use the up and down unless I am trying to drive a groundball the opposite way on a hit and run, or hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a runner from third.

You also want to take a lot of pitches. Early in a count the pitcher is trying to get you to hit his pitch. Even if his curveball is a strike, let it go, or you won't get a good solid hit.

Also, I recommend using the batter's eye, which gives you general location (up, down, inside, outside) and pitch type. I keep this low (about 25?) which generates more hints to better hitters, and forces lesser hitters to hit naked. But for learning to hit, bump it way up. You will start to get a feel for what to look for.

The location never tells you if it will be a ball or strike (except for that rare down the middle hint), but learning to look in a direction will really help you to start reading pitches with it turned off later.

But working the count is important. One, it improves your odds of swinging at a fastball and driving it. Two, it improves the chances of a pitcher fatiguing within an innings, and for the game as a whole. If you are not wearing pitchers down, you are missing opportunities to drive the ball hard.

There is plenty of misinformation about this being an arcade title, but hitting, as they have it designed, really does force you to think like a real hitter in ways the zone and cursor hitting do not. Those modes may be tougher, but that is more arcade than thinking.

Hitting can be hard at first, but after some practice the hitting starts to come around. I would recommend for you to enter into the practice mode and practice hitting. It mostly has a lot to do with timing and the pitcher you are facing. It is best when you are batting to be patient at the plate and be selective on the pitches you want to hit. If you fall 0-2 in the count just do what you can to work the count into your favor. There are chances you will either hit a pop up, an infield grounder, or get struck out. However, being patient at the plate will increase your chances of getting a hit.
