What are you doing to combat the online input lag?

Hey Guys,
The patch is here. Some things have changed; some things have stayed the same. For better or worse, this is the game we have for now. With that being said, I'd like to open the floor to talk about what can be done on offense/defense when you are on the other end of ridiculous lag. Please note: This is not a thread to complain about the lag, and how 2K has wronged us--I hate the lag too; it exists; there are plenty of threads (I've posted in some) to voice complaints. This thread is about proactivity.

OK, I don't have many suggestions myself. I'm really hoping to lean on the community. Anyone who has played me knows I'm not the best at 2K, but I'm better than the average and I pride myself in my basketball IQ. The lag stops me from executing the way I want on both sides of the ball. After thinking about it, I came up with a defensive idea and followed suit. Here are examples of what I did in my last game:

My first game after the patch, I was hoping for the lag to be fixed. I played against the Trailblazers. I told myself that if it was lagging after the tipoff I'd just discontinue. It was. Terribly. But I hadn't played in awhile, and this guy was kind of typical--every shot is a three, stands behind my point guard to take charges with center in the backcourt. He took a solid lead about 16. Every 3 dropped. I got caught in some charges after his made basket. Reluctantly, I went to Zone (UGH I HATE IT....but I'm trying to fill the gaps because I can't move my players fast enough due to lag w/ man to man.), and a LOT of off ball (I usually only do it to jump the occasional passing lane). After his scores I carefully inbounded the ball, and stepped around Robin Lopez (trying to draw the charge) repeatedly, then passed to the man he left open, Brook Lopez. I consider this as an easy way to punish guys who take those cheap charges. The zone allowed me to keep guys near shooters (with limit perimeter engaged). As i began to stop his scores, I settled down on offense and got whatever I wanted. Lead cut to 5 (biggest lead had been 19).

IDK what happened, maybe he figured out the zone. I know he turned up his charge attempts, and it's really hard to step around a charge if you don't anticipate the attempt and can't react quickly due to lag. He pushed the lead back up to 15. I cut it back 10. Then it went up to 16. He keeps pausing to show me his stats. He keeps pausing to show me the "quit" option. Whatever. I played it out. Funny, he wasn't suggesting I quit when I was coming back. Only after he'd hit 3 after 3 after 3 after 3 with everyone not named Lamarcus Aldridge.

Anyway, that's an example of an experience I had. I had a typical non-sim style game with a quick match guy. I don't enjoy playing these guys; but without lag, i can beat these kind of guys. Sucks to be at a handicap.

That was my zone experiment. I've gotta say last gen defensive settings would really help here. But we don't have them. Guess I'll have to try something else. Offense is negatively affected, but not as much as defense IMO; I can still score if I'm patient. I'm just at my wit's end regarding how to balance the input lag handicap, so I can get my guys where I need them on defense. How are you guys managing? Let's help each other.

Aside: whatever happened to sportsmanship? If your opponent doesn't quit, since when does it fall upon you to tell him to do so? Yes, sometimes it's nice to go "Oh, i made him quit," but I respect those who stick it out.

I played 2 games last night and it was on par with past gen games. Night and day between the last few weeks post launch.

I'm on PS4 btw.

I'm on PS4 as well. From what I understand, the lag input is one-sided: one user experiences it. I just began having difficulties with it 2 weeks ago. Prior to that, I never lagged.

I've always had lag problems. Part of it is probably that the internet my area is horribly overloaded.

I have no solutions. It really makes it tough to play.

Are you guys exaggerating the input lag or is it really that bad for some of you guys? I play a lot of online games and I have no problem playing on ball defense. I can tell there is a very slight input lag but it is the same as 2k13 and 2k14 current-gen.

No exaggerations here.

I have a Motorola SB6141 hardwired through Cat6e gigabit to a Asus AC68R. My networking setup is not to blame.

This game just had horrendous net code that results in this tremendous amount of input lag that plagues online play.

No exaggeration.

Current gen ran perfectly with almost no lag, so I don't feel like its people's connection. I think its just server overload because everyone is online at all times basically, with MyTeam, MyCareer, The Park, and now MyGM. Too much stress on servers that really aren't good enough to handle all of it.
