Wingspan/Speed formula - Xbox Uno - GT Max1000000

Measurements and speeds for all the teams
This is a new *1/28 link http://sdrv.ms/1b3j7j6 *1/28
Sorry if it was bookmarked. This should be the last time I change the link. It will have the five or so players that were missing.

Chunt is keeping a file going. Thanks a ton. I hope it doesn't get too corrupted.
Gamertag: Chunt04
Roster: OS Roster
GR5Noles has a file on the PS 4.

Thanks again...

Once I realized we could adjust arms, shoulders and legs/torso it was the first thing I wanted to edit. The gameplay was more about curiosity and an organic, sensible foundation to build off of. The speed ratings packed their bags and said we’re coming too. Speed has bothered me for a while. I posted speed edits for 2k10. The problem I have with the speed ratings is that I know they are wrong. I went to a basketball school, I was more of a football player but I played varsity hoops at St Thomas Moore. Same school that featured Quincy Douby, and Andre Drummond recently. I watched the post graduate team practice I know that speed blends all over positions, height, race and body type. Ive timed players, counted their steps in the game and in real life.

Decent example of it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl0L3pxToSE. Fastforward to the real footage then work backwards a little.

I wondered about the consequences that come as a result of getting it wrong. At the same time I know the threshold was worse in 2k6; 2k7 had catchup speed, and 2k10 slowed you down considerably while dribbling with a weak offhand. I understand why people would wonder why I would raise minimum speed.

I think the speed ratings are close to NBA with a default 50 on the slider. It wasn’t built for default but 51 seemed the best and that’s only one away from default so… I have found that while the players move about as fast as a combine sprint which is close to what you get when you clock someone on the break the speed fluctuates. I don’t know how much it fluctuates outside of the freestyle practice gym but I know it fluctuates in the gym. Guys seem to run like they shoot. Sometimes they are excellent on a sprint sometimes they are little off but the median seems right.

Back to the consequences.

This is a good read

http://hoopchalk.com/2013/03/27/the-...-in-isolation/

It certainly seems like getting speed wrong trickled up to big men dragging down onball defense offset by more perimeter contact than Jerry West faced in the 70s. Big men in NBA 2k are like fat lineman in the NFL. The defensive stance is in worse shape than the speed. I hope more organic speeds can help fix it. This game has potential-

I counted 41 attributes 33 sig badges, 22 personality badges, 58 tendencies, and 40 signature animations give or take. It’s a tough count. Lot of scrolling. Makes you wonder.

I'll go into some detail about how I derive the numbers at a later date. (Some mention a few post down.)

Yeah I just added the Lakers and the Heat's speed and measurements.
So far I have the measurements for the Bobcats, Heat, Lakers, Pacers, Timber Wolves, Thunder, and Trail Blazers with the speeds for the Lakers, Heat, Pacers, Thunder and Trail Blazers above.

I've noticed that any speed under 50 fall into the category of "no NBA player runs that slow" so Ive shifted the scale from 50 to 99. I use 3/4 sprint times because while they dont tell you how fast a player plays it tells you how slow they arent. Its also somewhat fair and it creates an athletic curve thats missing. Out of five teams the Heat Trail Blazers Thunder, Pacers and Lakers there are only three guys with 90s and no player above 95 yet.

Re: Wingspan/Speed formula

The way I'm doing the wingspans are if the players wingspan is 9% bigger than their height than it's a 90
8.4% 84 and so on
I think many of your wingspans and speed are too high like Greg Oden with a 72 speed?

Thats kinda what I do with wingspans except I split the number against shoulder width. A higher percentage goes to wingspan when they larger than average standing reaches, a lower percentage goes when its lower than average so guys with maxed shoulders or wingspans have either freakishly long arms from having a huge standing reach or freakish wide shoulders by having a short standing reach with a huge wingspan.

Examples
Kobe has an unearthly standing reach so his wingspan drains from his shoulders. The guy is like 6'4.75 barefoot with an 8'10 standing reach...

Im thinking about redoing the formula for guys like Kobe who goes well past the existing range so I would pour the remainder into shoulders after subtracting it for wingspan. I'll try it right now.

The new Kobe Bryant.
100 44 0

So yeah even the new Kobe is maxed. Two things changed. I found out his

standing reach was in shoes and I changed how I handle maxed stats.

Here is the math. I take the difference between a players wingspan and barefoot height and subtract 1.5 because the models are already somewhat lanky. I would say that they have a slightly above average wingspan. I then take the remainder increase it by a value of ten then cut it in half. I set the two numbers to the side. Lets say the number was 4 I make it 40 then cut in half with two 20s.

So I have two 20s

I then compare their standing reach to the average NBA standing reach for their height. Lets say its .7 greater. I multiply that times a modifier. Its ten now it started off as 1.5. 10 * .7 I get 7. Since the standing reach is greater than average I subtract 7 from shoulder width and give it to wingspan. When the standing reach is less than average I subtract from wingspan and give to shoulder width. What Im changing now is that everytime I subtract I give back after one maxes out so no actual numbers are lost.

This is a redo of a maxed shoulder width as an example.

Danny Granger

You subtract his barefoot height from his wingspan, then subtract 1.5 * 10 /2 and you get two 22s his standing reach is 3.1 inches shorter than average. Go with the formula and...

New Granger

44 100 50

Reducing guys from what they once were is the toughest part about roster edits especially with someone like Oden. This is a dude that was faster than Lillard and CJ. I took 10 off of him and I'm not sure either way. He looked good when he played in the preseason. I was thinking he is back until tells the reporter he has to go ice up. If he has to ice after 10 minutes it makes you wonder. I think he is healthier than advertised and its a ploy. We will see.

Nice job, man. You can really see the difference in Nic Batum and Kevin Durant's player models. Have you noticed the longer arms making a difference in gameplay?

it makes a difference in jump balls and probably tip ins now that big men are are jumping for rebounds. I see more of a difference with organic speeds. I can still get to the hoop with Lillard after dropping his speed from 95 to 80 because ball handling and onball defense matters more than speed in the halfcourt. It does make a difference in the transition game. Just seems more realistic. I would gladly dump the system if STATS would use their speedometer for speed ratings but I figure Visual Concepts is too idealistic to use such technology. They have been nerfing athletic bigs for years now. I think Dwight Howard is still slower than every PG except Fisher who has a 70. He might even be slower than Fisher.

Sucks that this speed thing is only for average speed.

Great tool for stamina ratings.

I added speeds and measurements for the Kings and Spurs to the file. I'll update it here this week and probably add the T-Wolves, and Bobcats since they are already on the file.
