The official "What's wrong with and what can fix NBA 2k" thread

Before anyone begins off by thinking I'm trolling, or hating. I'd like to say, kudos to everyone at 2k for making one of the best sports games of all time. Looks and feels great, almost too realistic (in a good way).

However, without stating what's WRONG. We as die hard fans won't get the best product and the devs/2k sports workers will not know about what they should improve on.

I'd like to begin off by a short list, I will also add any suggestions you like, along with your name. Please don't give me silly stuff, (no armpit hair), or missing accessories. Let's worry about the major details.

First things first, I have to ask 2k. What happened to the co-op fan base? Did people all of the sudden only play each other online? Or get together to play one on one games? Each time having to upload there own custom made rosters and loading them up before playing a quick game? So with that said, here is what's missing/lacking in NBA 2k14.

1) A playoffs mode. Let's fast forward to April. The play offs begin, I'd like to actually do my own version of the playoffs along side REAL life. I can't do that? I have to start a Mygm or myseason mode and simulate up until a playoffs begin? Without having some of the actual qualifying teams in it?

2) so I don't have the ability to create a custom roster? That is usable with MyGM/Season or the missing playoffs mode? Most of us are being kicked out of the game and onto the home screen whenever we try uploading a custom roster for those modes.

3) we can't select more than one team in season? MyGm, sure I understand. But why season? At least give us an option. This is where Playoffs should of been added too.

4) Online Association? Where did this go?

5) what about that NBA TODAY addition into a SEASON? Or even MYgm? That could of been great... Imagine being a MYGM along side a real life NBA season. Ratings update for computer teams, trades, injuries etc. obviously you have an option to have this mode on or off. Even better if you are allowed to choose more than one team.

Maybe to eliminate playoffs mode, you should of given us an atmosphere to select when just playing a quick game (nba playoffs, finals or regular atmosphere/court). What happened to being creative with the features that existed? I understand bringing in a couple of BRAND NEW (my gm, my team) modes. But what about innovating a couple of CLASSIC/VINTAGE modes that exist in all basketball games to date? You know the ones that set the standard!

Please add more to this list guys and girls. 2k is a great company and they listen. It's up to us to request!

^^^Just my opinion, but I believe...

2K probably has not yet figured out "how much VC to charge" for each & every game feature that you discussed above. (in #1-5)

See, once they get a good idea of the TOTAL sales numbers for all 2K14 'micro-transactions' after this Christmas Holiday period ends, we can expect to hear more definitive answers to all the questions that you posed.

Personally, I believe the next-gen version of 2K14 is more of a 'test run' to see how much 'real money' the next-gen market is willing to spend.

In order to figure out the rest of the VC prices... they gotta see how & where folks are spending the most VC before they tackle all the other missing game modes & features. (Because 'advertising packages' in those other modes are probably still 'for sale' and they have to figure out what they can charge their potential partners.)

Why is this important?

At the end of the day, they need to figure out all VC rates >> so they can figure out how much REAL MONEY they can make off all the micro-transactions in the entire game >> which in turn, helps them figure out the COST of advertising >> which then helps them decide which business partner/s to sell the available 'ad space' to, in the missing game modes. (and 'how much' to charge them for their logo to appear in the game)

Think I'm crazy?

Turn the game on, and just think about this...
  • Blacktop & Park mode - sponsored by Sprite
  • Halftime Report - sponsored by Sprint
  • 2K Beats - sponsored by Sprite
  • Timeouts - sponsored by Gatorade
  • MyPlayer Store - sponsored by Champs
  • Footwear & Apparel - sponsored by Nike, Adidas, Brand Jordan, Reebok, Converse, Under Armor, etc.

So, in addition to the sponsorship deals above, to me, that means 2K15 might also include...
  • Playoffs Mode - sponsored by [Samsung?]
  • Online Association Mode - sponsored by [Frito Lay?]
  • Custom Rosters - sponsored by [American Express?]
  • Our ability to select 'multiple teams' in a single season - sponsored by [insert corporation name here]
  • Name any 'Missing Feature' here - and it might get sponsored by [insert corporation name here] in 2K15

And if they bring some of those missing features back next year, 2K will probably charge VC everywhere.
For every little thing you want to do in this game.

Just saying.

Am I the only one that thinks the computer AI makes way too many shots? Granted I'm not great at the game yet but playing against the computer on normal settings, they frequently are above 60% shooting and sometimes even around 70% for the game. That's just ridiculous. If a team shoots 50% in real life, that's pretty darn good. It's hard to keep up because even if I shoot 50% from the floor, I still lose by 10-12 points.

No, you are not alone in your thinking.
I agree. The CPU makes too many shots, imo.
(especially in the 4th quarter, during crunchtime)

If you are playing ‘Quick Game’ mode…
  • Go to NBA Today
  • Press circle
  • Go to 2K Options
  • Use L2/R2 to access the ‘User Sliders’ screen.
  • Increase a few of your sliders/attributes a bit, to compensate for the CPU’s AI ability to make every shot down the stretch.
  • It may take a few adjustments to get it 'just right', so the game stays competitive with your skill level.

Cool, thanks man. I couldn't get over the hump and after 7-8 games of thinking, wow they're httting a lot of shots I started checking the stats and they were outrageous. Still feel a little cheap changing the sliders but if that's an apparent issue I feel better about doing it lol.
